Sebastian walked to his quarters alone as Benjamin was yet to return from Irvington. As he entered his room, he remembered Marcellus' words about Mirabelle.
The girl obviously wasn't a vampire but from everything that had happened, his conclusion was that the girl was truly a seer as he and father Roberts had suspected. But the question was what kind?.
The seers in Denver were in two kinds. The good ones and the bad ones; just like every other creature in Denver which had both light and dark groups.
But a dark seer was rare. There was rarely an account of a dark seer in Denver but it's existence was still carried by the whispers of the wind. More like a rumor than reality.
On the other hand the light seers were made to work with the king to ensure the betterment of the kingdom because they saw and predicted calamities or problems before it happened.
This history of the seers was barely even talked about given that they were only born once in a hundred years. The people didn't have much knowledge on them as they did the other creatures in Denver.
To add to their mystery, the seers had other powers other than seeing the future. But no one knew what kind.
After Sebastian became king, he did his research on Denver's history. There were several scrolls hidden in the archives, in Denver's library and the library in the castle about the creatures that dwelled in Denver, Denver's beginning, wars and other important informations but he only found a few scrolls about the Seers. All circulating only the fact that the Seers could see into the future, they were enemies with witches and they were special creatures.
As Sebastian pondered on Mirabelle's case he then recalled her saying there was someone also in the room with her before the incident.
He wondered who it must have been and decided to question Mirabelle more about it later.
He headed to the gallery room and began to paint on a blank canvas. Prior to when he became king, Sebastian enjoyed painting and playing the piano. It was a form of expression to him. Whatever he felt inside, he'd pour it out on a canvas.
As he held the paint brush, about to give another stroke on the canvas, an image flashed in his mind. A sharp pang of pain in his core as he recognized the moment that flashed in his eyes.
"Burn them! They practice witchcraft!"
"They're demons from hell!"
"Burn them quickly before they corrupt the whole of Denverion!" He remembered their voices.
Little Sebastian was trembling as he watched the angry mob with torches of fire in hand outside his home and his mother trying to act composed as she held him and his siblings in a tight hug and their father standing right beside her.
"I want you all to go through the backyard and run away from here. You all go hide somewhere and your father and I would find you. You know how we communicate so wait till we find you" Little Sebastian heard his mother say.
His little heart thumping rapidly against his ribcage, he felt he'd faint. Deep down he felt like he was going to loose his parents. As the thought settled in his mind, he burst out crying.
"Mahalalel, mama and papa are going to be fine. Stop crying please" his mother tried to comfort him. That same moment, their wooden gate was set ablaze by the mob outside.
"You all need to hurry. Go now!" He felt his mother gently push them towards the backyard. Mahalalel which was also called Sebastian turned to look at his father and the look in his father's eyes made him burst out in tears once again as his father quietly spoke "Be strong like your father".
Mahalalel's elder brother Ezekiel quickly said to him "Stop crying, let's go hide first. Papa and Mama would find us".
The three little children of age ten, seven and five held each other's hand as they began running with their little legs towards the forest that was afar of behind their house.
Mahalalel and his younger sister Esther were crying profusely and the eldest tried not to cry along with his siblings but instead tried coaxing them with words.
The king trembled as the paint brush fell from his hands. The memory stung like a Bee's strike. He felt the hate he had for humans resurface and he growled in anger about to dash out of the gallery room when Benjamin walked in.
Seeing the state of the king which he wasn't new to, he quickly said to him "Seb, calm down please. You don't want to do anything rash".
The king gritted his teeth as he looked up at Benjamin "What did you find?".
"I inquired from the villagers and the guards of the village, they said they haven't noticed anything unusual yet except the fact that some said they saw one of the families giving all the food items you gave them to the village's orphanage" Benjamin explained.
"I thought they were the hungry ones. Why give out what you've been so desperate for?" Sebastian said and a scoff followed.
"It's strange to me also" Benjamin added.
"Let's go for a hunt" Sebastian said and they both walked out of the gallery room. Sebastian felt bloodthirsty and angered because he remembered his past. Knowing himself he needed to quench his thirst because if he doesn't, he'd do something rash.
