Jian Anning then realized—while rescuing him earlier, she had been holding Situ Xuan's hand and forgotten to let go, so they had been holding hands all along while running.
Without saying a word, she immediately released her hand from his palm and stepped back to the side.
Situ Xuan could feel it too, as the soft, smooth sensation in his hand slipped away, leaving him somewhat empty inside.
Neither of them knew what to say; the strong desire Situ Xuan had felt towards Jian Anning was no longer there. Perhaps the escape had drained him, or maybe he wasn't generally that interested in matters of the heart, and once his excitement passed, he was back to his usual composure.
Yet, after escaping together, her determination was firm when saving him, but now it felt a bit awkward.
