4:30 p.m. came, and Gen's soldiers, the red and grey camouflage-wearing terrorists who once slaughtered the military who were trying to contain the zombie virus outbreak, were burning incense sticks and lighting candles at the spots where the soldiers of the government had met their fates and prayed for their souls. They did that at various times of the day.
"We're the reason you're gone," one muttered with tears, "now we're the reason to fix everything. We're paying the price with our lives."
"We'll suffer for you…!" another, a heavy gunner named Yaketsuku Katō, sobbed while his light M249 gun was casted aside on the cooling concrete.
Meanwhile, in the breakroom, Gen was in his smartphone watching a stickman video of a man-made zombie outbreak by an insane scientist and his rebel army. The stickmen were stickmen nodes. The video was part 2 and shows how the military was trying to stop them. For Gen, it was a mirror to his brutal and dark past. Plus, the stickman who was the psycho ninja hitman of the scientist was essentially a mirror to Ichiro, too.
"I am once like that person…" he muttered as he removed the screen for watching and deleting the video from his YouTube watch history, "...now I am unlike him. I am now using my zombie virus to bring back a soul from the abyss of his own mind. It was merely a sedative for someone who is suffering from guilt."
He then glanced at Shu, who was laughing with Mara, Kashi, and Ichiro while sipping a cup of coffee.
"Shu was doing well…" Gen's mind said, "...this peace treatment is for him, a part of my past self recycled as something he would find peace in. That was a sublimation in my own way that also benefited Shu-kun."
A bit later, Shu and Gen went on their next CBT session with Ken Shunsuke. They proceeded with the session while pretending that nothing bad happened.
By 5 p.m., Shu went to a Lutheran parish that was just a few blocks from the Yami Kuro Yama headquarters. It was a Baptist one in theology, but the aesthetics was Lutheran in worship style. Following the iconoclast view, the church did not have any stained-glass images of Jesus or the saints. In their place, the stained glass had designs of Japanese and German themes. The church had long sold off its baptismal font for infant baptism and the crucifixes for the altar and procession, as well as its incense burners. In their place, empty crosses and incense stick holders took their place. The incense stick holders were placed alongside 3-branched candlesticks on the ornate altar, signifying their symbolism of cultural syncretism. Setting foot on this place in his red and grey camouflage Yami Kuro Yama soldier attire, Shu felt peace as the place was empty and only smelled of incense. He compared a book of the church's theology with his notes from middle school of the old SSPX-run school. He leaned on the Zwinglian view of communion, Baptist view of baptism, and the Protestant view of church history. It was more than a match.
So, he turned on his heel and walked back to Gen's headquarters as the sun sets.
