(LEO POV)
He watched snivy slither forwards, only sparing a passing thought for her missing arms and legs. Obviously, one of her parents had a strong influence on her mutation.
Leo was more interested in the energy constructs snivy used with careless ease. He could tell that she was controlling the life of the forest itself. The seeming decay and rebirth were a result of the constructs sucking in and regurgitating the life force around her.
Leo's eyes smoldered brighter, the phantasmal chains rustling as he used his power to try and understand snivy's essence. The world grayed out for a second before an intense purple-green radiance nearly blinded him.
A towering purple serpent rose in front of him. Countless emerald wisps that trapped the essence of life itself shone out from the violet scales. Leo's mind stalled for a second, trying to process what his power was showing him.
'If she's already become a unique legendary being, why does she still have such a similar appearance to a regular snivy?' Leo pondered to himself, watching the pokemon as she suddenly stopped.
Her glowing eyes intensified, the red light completely obscuring the rest of her face, leaving only a deep crimson haze. Leo whistled quietly to himself at the display.
She started to retreat further into the shadows of the forest; the vine constructs twisting and slashing with ferocity. Leo instantly realized his mistake, wanting to kick himself for acting without thought.
'She sure doesn't like having her privacy invaded. Honestly, I seem to be attracting a bunch of prideful little divas. Does that say something about me...Nah it must just be my overwhelming charm.' Leo thought with no small amount of narcissism.
Leo deactivated his power, making a mental note to refrain from using his abilities so openly in the future. The fact that every human and creature he had tried it on had noticed was problematic.
With his self-rebuking done, Leo tried to approach the visibly hostile pokemon in a friendlier way. "Hey there, sorry for invading your privacy. I meant you no offense, I have a bad habit of analyzing anything that interests me."
Leo raised his hands in a placating gesture, hoping his sincerity could be felt. Snivy stalled her retreat, the glow fading from her eyes slightly. She weighed the truth in his words, long moments passing in tense silence.
Leo chanced a glance behind him, where elder Lazars watched the exchange with a neutral expression. He really wished the old man would help smooth the awkward situation.
Before he could verbalize his plea, a sudden noise interrupted him.
"Sniv!" Leo's head shot forward so fast a small "whoosh" was generated from the wind pressure. Snivy had retracted her vine constructs, simultaneously widening the pathway enough for Leo to pass through.
Seeing she had his attention, Snivy huffed and turned to head back the way she came. Leo pondered his option for half a second. Deciding that he wasn't in any real danger, he rushed down the path, trees and roots automatically moving out of his way before they closed behind him.
He jogged behind the shadowy figure for several minutes, wondering where she was leading him. After about 10 minutes he noticed snivy's brisk pace started to slow.
A few moments later, Leo found himself bursting into another clearing. The differences were immediately apparent. The clearing spread out for at least 10,000 meters (32,808 feet) in every direction.
Leo found himself wondering how big this whole place was as he slowed to a walk. He gazed around, taking in the training area and its setup.
A large pond sat in the center, with a small island floating in the middle. A small array of boulders lay in heaps off to the left. Obvious slash marks littered the largest ones, with smaller shards littering the area.
Leo noticed the ground was pockmarked and desertified, fine pools of sand forming a natural barrier zone from the lush grass and flowers that covered the place. Off to the right, Leo saw a pile of berries, items, and other valuables from around the forest.
The pile had a strangely flat top, giving Leo a humorous image of snivy sleeping on top of the pile while cuddling with one of her vine constructs. He had to hold back a snicker while he glanced back towards the now stationary pokemon.
Snivy maintained her shadowy shroud, hiding the details of her form from Leo's sight. He couldn't tell if that was a sign of her distrust due to his previous offense, or if she was naturally shy.
Deciding to get closer now that she seemed to be in a more comfortable mood, Leo moved closer. Making small, measured steps towards his potential partner, he waited for her to react negatively.
Contrary to his expectations, Leo was able to get within arms distance without Snivy so much as twitching. He hesitated then, unsure how he should approach this uncomprehensible pokemon.
They stared at each other for a while. Leo's smoldering eyes hidden by his shades, Snivy's infernal aura shrouding her protectively. After an unknown amount of time, Leo finally spoke.
"You know, I think I have finally figured you out." He spoke conversationally, plopping down to the soft ground in front of Snivy. She barely twitched in acknowledgement, internally wondering where this was going.
"I have pretty much confirmed that your dad must be King, otherwise he wouldn't have tested me like that." Leo waited a beat for a reaction, getting none.
He just nodded his head and continued speaking. "With King as your father and some Legend level Serperior being your mom it's easy to guess your problem." Here Leo paused, noticing that Snivy's impenetrable shroud was starting to fluctuate.
"You obviously inherited the best from both of your parents. Yet you are still weak." Snivy's aura flared with rage, an unseen root shooting out of the ground and piercing Leo's chest.
Leo barely reacted, only giving an unimpressed glance to the plant life currently impaling him. "Do you see your weakness now? You have been granted strong powers over Life and Death, but they have blinded you to your true potential."
Snivy's aura shattered, revealing an emerald body covered in countless angry red scars. The slashes pulsed with an eerie crimson glow, blood-like liquid welling up and rolling down her skin.
They evaporated into a crimson mist that was sucked back into the red gashes where the process repeated. Her eyes were a regal gold color; snake shaped pupils ablaze with the same otherworldly crimson glow.
Those very eyes were now widened in absolute shock. Snivy could feel the lifeforce leaving the human in front of her. This was no illusion, and yet the human lived. Even as she stood there, she could feel the humans body continuing to expel a seemingly infinite amount of lifeforce.
Her eyes widened with fear after a moment. No human should have this much lifeforce to squander like this. This human, Leo, she had heard he was called, still seemed as lively as ever.
Leo chose that moment to continue speaking. "That's always the problem with powers related to life and death." Leo shook his head with a genuinely disappointed expression.
"Life and Death are among the strongest Origins in existence, but their godlike abilities are confined to their home reality. It is often too difficult to reach the same level of mastery over such powers in the Outer Verse. At least in the beginning stages."
Leo began his lecture with gusto, savoring the opportunity to appear like an enlightened sage. Snivy was shocked to see Leo make no attempt to remove the root currently draining his lifeforce. Hearing his words however, made her curious enough to entertain the insane human for a while longer.
"If your talents were limited to Life and Death then you likely wouldn't have been born with any so-called defects." Snivy was given another shock when she heard this. Never had she heard her powers over life and death be discussed with such a casual tone of dismissal.
Her shock was so great she nearly missed the implied message in his words. Snivy voluntarily removed the root from Leo's body, moving to return the stolen lifeforce.
Leo smiled happily, interrupting snivy while settling more comfortably on the ground now that he didn't have a root keeping him in an uncomfortable position. "Ah, thanks for that I was getting itchy with that thing moving around.
You can keep the energy though, I don't need it and it should help relieve your torment for a moment." Leo's calm words made Snivy hesitate. She looked towards him, seeing the hole in Leo close almost instantly after the root was removed.
Feeling numb to the continued shocks at this point, Snivy promptly decided to consume the energy she had been gathering from Leo. Her body was overcome with a golden glow for a moment; the red gashes across her form shrinking slightly under the light.
"That glow confirms it! You really do have a similar talent to mine. Only your temporal affinity could not be expressed under this reality's rules. The only way your body could handle it was to fracture your talent.
Your power split itself into Life and Death, splitting your very soul and wrecking your body to keep you from exceeding the bounds of the Reality and being erased."
Snivy had a transfixed look on her face. She didn't understand how he knew, but she could tell that Leo was correct. Her intuition had been telling her that this human was the key to fixing her problems.
Before she had been speculative, but after her failed attack and hearing his words, she was forced to believe it. "I know this might be shocking but you know I am telling the truth. Your talent lies in Temporal or Chrono energy; the only reason you can't use it is because you simply weren't meant to."
Snivy was reeling from the information overload. She could feel her draconic instincts flaring up in agitation. The sheer unfairness of the situation nearly made her lash out at Leo again.
She took a calming breath, fighting down her instincts to finish listening to Leo. "I can understand your anger. A talent like yours is much rarer than you might think, and in many other Realities you might have been the daughter of destiny.
As you are now, you will never reach your full potential. If you were to become my partner, all that would change. I will not boast, but you must know that this reality is nowhere close to the level of the family I come from."
Leo released the full pressure of his bloodline for the first time since arriving in this Reality. A domineering presence filled the air around them, ripples forming in the grass as pressure flowed off his body.
A faint platinum flame outlined the markings on his body, chain rattling noises echoing through the surroundings. Through it all Snivy was transfixed. She could feel the depth of Leo's bloodline, an ocean of power contained in a cup of infinite capacity.
As impressive as the whole display was, Snivy was more focused on the feeling Leo's energy gave her. It felt comforting in a way that Snivy had never known before.
She had struggled to feel at peace with Deathly energies when she discussed with the ghost types. She had never felt the deep peace of nature she often heard about from the friendly grass types. Even when speaking to other Grass and Ghost dual types, she was often unable to find the inner balance they always spoke about.
It wasn't until this moment, as she felt Leo's energy wash over her form like a soothing balm that she finally understood. She had never felt what the other pokemon were talking about, simply because she didn't belong there.
It was at that moment that Snivy made her decision, she was going to join this crazy human. If only because he would let her feel like she belonged.
