Chapter 92 - CHAINS OF CONNECTION

Over the next few days in Taeo City, Jayden and his team dedicate themselves to protecting the weaker Stars from those carrying out kill tasks.

They even quell an uprising led by the Crimson Flare rebels, those who seek to wage war against the Stars, the Cyan Sparks, and the converted Crimson Flare members. Their actions quickly earn them fame throughout the city. People begin calling them heroes.

As Taeo's grand plan progresses, Jayden's group joins the city's hardworking teams, gathering vital resources to aid construction efforts.

When the massive dungeon expedition begins, they board their own colossal drill digger and descend deep into the underground dungeon.

There, they help miners collect rare ores, solve ancient puzzle rooms, and battle fierce crystal beasts alongside Gaia and Hopper.

Meanwhile, within the white-chained realm, Khaos slowly rises to his feet as the blinding light fades around him. The radiant void twists and reshapes into a grimy back alley. Trash litters the wet pavement. In the middle of the alley, he sees a terrified couple shielding overturned metal bin.

A flash of fire erupts, burning them to ash. The bin rolls aside, revealing two twin children, a younger Jayden and Fushi. Both sob uncontrollably. Moments later, a caped hero rushes into the alley and extends a comforting hand.

"You're too late…" young Fushi mutters through trembling lips. "You couldn't save my parents."

Before the hero can respond, she grabs a broken fork from the ground and plunges it into his neck. The hero staggers back, clutching his wound, until a shadowy villain strikes him down with an electrified bat.

The villain turns to the crying girl and offers his hand. "Come with me if you wish to learn the true meaning of life."

Fushi takes his hand. The two disappear into the blinding light at the end of the alley, leaving Jayden crying alone.

Khaos watches without emotion and continues walking toward the same light. His form shifts into Baron's as the scenery transforms again, now an open farmland where rows of weary Indigo slaves toil beneath the sun. In the distance, a young Khaos chops wood, sweat dripping down his face.

Baron turns back and the world changes once more. She now stands in the center of a massive colosseum. A young Khaos lies on the ground, his body burned and broken. As he looks toward the night sky, a thunderous boom echoes across the sky. Fushi looks up to see the true form of an angel, glowing in the far reaches of space. A single white feather drifts down and lands gently on Khaos's chest.

The realm detonates in a burst of light. Fushi transforms into Khaos as the scenery shifts again—now a dim underground room. A young Fushi reads a book filled with sketches of Star Gates, the Star Games, God's Kingdom, and God himself. Homemade bombs and mechanical blueprints also clutter the space around her.

The vision changes once more. Fushi, now older and clad in her villain gear, stands in a city engulfed in flames. Tiny bombs swarm around her, erupting into explosions that rock the skyline.

Khaos charges through the chaos and slams her to the ground. "I don't care about your life! Get out!"

As Khaos then transforms into Fushi as the Fushi on the ground disappears, she then sees Khaos slaughtering many people with his bone sword. She yells, "You 've gained this power after witnessing a servant of God! I want that same power!"

The realm shatters like glass. Khaos bursts free from Fushi like jelly as he yells, "You're nothing but a parasite, holding me back!"

They clash, locking arms, straining against one another.

"I can see it in your eyes!" Fushi cries. "You think I'm a mere insect, but I'll do whatever it takes to become God! Even if it means taking you!"

The mirrored shards of reality fracture around them as they wrestle. Khaos's obsession collides with Fushi's desperation. Suddenly the white chains binding them turn pitch-black, and the realm itself darkens.

Outside the realm, the moon crashes toward Doom planet, engulfing the skies in darkness. Within the black realm, Khaos and Baron writhe in agony as darkness consumes them both. Gasping for air, in that instant of survival, they both reach out their hands and grabs each other tightly, pushing back the corruption from their bodies.

They embrace, their combined energy forming a radiant pulse that drives the darkness away.

From the outside the realm, the black chained sphere in the sky then explodes, reforming the body of Khaos. His body radiates faint colors of red, blue, and purple as the rest of his body is blacken. From his back, the upper half of Baron emerges, her once-black hair now a glowing white. Loose, glowing chains drift from their fused forms.

Dark creatures begin to crawl out from the shadows but together, the merged Khaos and Baron stand tall, fighting together against the rising horde of darkness.

For days, Khaos and Baron continue their relentless battle through waves of dark monsters until. finally, they reach the edge of the land to see black lands before them. In the distance, the final dark war rages on. Stars and mortals alike clash against the dark demon lady hovering in the sky.

Before Khaos and Baron can join the fight, a surge of darkness erupts from the demon. It sweeps across the world, consuming everything. One by one, all of the Stars collapse into unconsciousness. Yet, amid the despair, Khaos and Baron remain standing, the only ones in the entire world capable of enduring the pitch black darkness.

Through the suffocating dark mist, as suddenly countless ghostly lights flicker across the black land. One of Boa's spirits then drifts close and brushes against Khaos and Baron, fortifying their bodies and wills. The oppressive energy weakens. Then, through the chaos, Vel's beautiful voice fills the air a divine song that pierces all hearts and restores their courage against the darkness.

Moments later, the darkness is defeated by Rose's radiant sunlight powers. The black corruption seeps out from Khaos and Baron's bodies. The fused form between them breaks apart, leaving the two connected only by glowing white and black chains. Both cough up thick black sludge. Baron's hair has turned partially white.

She wipes her mouth and says, "You have to admit it, the way you were at the start of the first stage wasn't it. Killing everything without a plan to survive any of the doom waves, you would've died by the darkness without me and my bonus powers."

Khaos doesn't answer. He rises, spreads his arms wide, and breathes deeply. Then, to her surprise, he begins to hum softly a melody nearly identical to Vel's divine song. Baron stares, bewildered. For the first time, Khaos seems at peace.

They look up to see a massive planet descending from space. The sight shakes the very air around them.

"It's a miracle that we even survived the darkness," Baron says, her tone calm yet urgent. "But that, we won't survive that. If we want to become gods, we need to exclude ourselves from the final doom wave. Placements don't matter if we're dead. Let's move on to the next stage together."

She extends her hand toward him. Khaos studies her quietly for a moment, realizing that, through all the chaos and pain, he's grown attached to her and all she has said is true.

"I thought I could do it alone," he admits. "That's how I've always done it. But I was wrong. I couldn't have survived without you. I never imagined someone could change me... but you did. You made me realize I can't win the Star Games alone."

Baron smiles faintly. "I'm proud to see this side of you. We've seen each other's entire lives now, you've always fought all this time to become like what you saw during that night sky. You are a mortal Angel in the making. Soon, the Gods will recognize that... once you win."

They clasp hands as their task ignites above them:

Task 1: Slay 100,000 dark monsters – Completed.

Task 2: Survive the darkness without any light source – Completed.

A beam of divine light envelops them. In an instant, they're teleported back to the God's Arena among the other surviving Stars.

Moments later after the first stage has been completed, God's Avatar appears and announces the Unique Reset, transporting everyone that gained power from the first stage into a vast cube-shaped arena.

Across the field, Pax spots them. His eyes widen. "There's no way… you're both still alive?!"

He charges forward, his body glowing with holy energy. "This time, I don't need Jayden's help! I've become a beacon of light myself!"

Pax's punch slams into Khaos, knocking him to the ground. Baron steps forward, her chain magic snapping outward to block Pax's follow-up strike. Pax freezes, confused to see Khaos's expression is calm, no anger, no hatred, no intent to fight.

"What is this?" Pax mutters, lowering his guard.

A flash of brilliance flashes at the end of the arena. The Angel Abaddon descends, in a blink, he begins slaughtering empowered Stars, each swing of his light sword ending another life in flashes of light.

Khaos and Baron kneel side by side, overwhelmed by the divine presence. "There's no resisting it," Khaos murmurs. "If this is God's will… I accept it."

"This isn't you at all!" Pax shouts, lunging forward to attack him. But before his strike can land, Abaddon flashes across the arena and slices Pax apart in a single, radiant motion.

Khaos and Baron gaze in awe, mesmerized by the angel's beauty and power, right before Abaddon turns his sword toward them and ends their lives as well.

Moments later, after the Unique Reset, divine energy restores their bodies. As all Stars reawakens in God's arena, stripped of all the powers they've gained in the first stage.

A small polar bear guide materializes before Khaos, its eyes glowing gently. "You've changed since I last saw you," it says. "No longer the reckless brute you once were."

Khaos then becomes curious. "Are you… a divine being?"

The bear bows. "Indeed. We are the divine guides created by God Himself. We oversee order and guide all Stars in the Star Games."

Khaos then ask another question, "How can I become one of you?"

The bear smiles. "It's simple. Win the Star Games and you shall become a God yourself."

With that, Khaos and Baron follow the bear into God's Kingdom. They ascend a stairway and enter a golden hotel, settling quietly into a shared room.

Moments later, Ambros, Rudi, and Vesper reunite with Corvex in the golden streets of God's Kingdom.

Ambros rushes her. "I'm glad to see you're still alive, Corvex!"

Corvex tilts her head with a faint smile. "Oh my… I almost forgot about you three."

Rudi crosses her arms and sighs. "That first stage was rough, but we managed to escape on Taeo's ship."

Vesper adds softly, "It's a shame, though. Taeo had such a grand plan… yet he died before seeing it through."

Corvex lowers her gaze. "I apologize for not being there for you all during the first stage. But I've found a new purpose in the games and I intend to pursue it alone." She bows respectfully, turns, and walks away down the shining streets.

A familiar laugh echoes behind them. "Oh well, at least you still have me, the Hero of Courage!"

Jayden strides towards them, wrapping his arms around all three of them in a tight hug. Pax lingers a few steps behind, his expression tense and weary.

Jayden notices. "Hey, Pax, what's wrong?"

Pax exhales heavily. "A lot… I thought I'd made peace with myself, that I'd mourned enough for everyone that Khaos killed back at home. But it's seem to not be over yet."

Jayden's smile fades, replaced with concern. "What do you mean?"

Pax looks at him, eyes shadowed as he explains to them all about what happened during the unique reset.

Jayden's eyes widen. "What?! Fushi is still also alive?"

"Yeah," Pax nods grimly. "But something's off. They've changed. It's like they've become… connected somehow. And Khaos, he's different from before."

Ambros scratches his chin. "Should we go pay them a visit?"

Vesper quickly shakes his head. "We shall not. From what I've experienced, meddling in things like this never ends well. Rest is what we all need right now."

Rudi nods in agreement. "Vesper's right. We can deal with that later, after the long awaited rest."

Jayden exhales, then smiles again, trying to lift the mood. "Come on then! Let's head to our rooms. We've earned it!"

As the group follows him, Pax lingers at the back of the hallway, glancing at Jayden's confident stride.

"How can he still smile through all of this?" he mutters quietly, then shakes his head and follows the others into another golden hotel, as the light of God's Kingdom reflecting softly on their tired faces.
