That place was once the divine domain ruled by the Abyssal Messenger, the Abyss Lord, the King of Harmful Insects, the Great Red Dragon Abaddon.

If one considers the Material World as a great ship sailing on the Sea of Origin Matter, then the Edge of the World belonging to the Land of the Dead is the terrifying hold perpetually shrouded in darkness, full of cockroaches and rats.
