Ash had now finally arrived at the final showdown of the Hoenn Region Ever Grande Conference!
He sent out all three members of the Hoenn Regions Royal Starters and his Pseudo-Legendary Dragonair, and all of them quite easily defeated their opponents, the four powerful Pokémon of the opposing Tobias in just a few moves.
But no one here would have ever expected that the one this newly "fully faced" Tobias would send out next would be a Moltres of all Pokémon.
"Then as for your wish, I'll grant it to you. Stand by for battle! Latios! Come to me!"
Seeing Latios do a loop in excitement, Ash smiled a little. Back then during the Johto Regio Silver Conference, it was the Eon Duo Latios and Latias that had registered for him without telling him anything before, and then suddenly appeared during the final battle of the Silver Conference to have a shared battle.
Now, he sent out the Legendary Pokémon for his opponents wish to come true.
Though the battlefield changed to the quite cold ice field, making Dragon-type Pokémon's like Tobias' Flygon and Ash's Dragonair a little uncomfortable, Latios as a Legendary Pokémon felt almost no different than being in a grass field.
"Oh my lord!!! Both of the finalists sent out Legendary Pokémon's! What am I witnessing?! Just sending out one Legendary Pokémon already made history some months ago during the Johto Leagues Silver Conference finals, now we have two here!"
"Moltres, use Flamethrower!" Since sending out the fire chicken into battle, Tobias' aura has changed completely, a complete opposite of the aloof one he showed before.
Now it has become very imposing, and also much calmer. His eyes also changed from the one that said "it is what it is" to one that said "I'm going to do it inside you."
And this new look made Ash honestly kind of uncomfortable.
"Dragon Pulse!"
The moves from both sides collided with each other, and soon exploded in mid-air, pushing both Pokémon backwards.
The hot air and backlash formed even made the audience shudder in intensity.
"Come on Latios!" Molly shouted loudly for the brother of her friend.
"It's time, Draco Meteor!" Since Dragonair had been under Rayquaza's tutelage, learning many different things, Ash saw the progress and decided it was a good idea to hand over the Eon Siblings over to him to the green serpent dragon to learn the powerful Draco Meteor.
Although neither the little sister Latias nor the older sister Latios were yet proficient in using it, their current strength has been continuously improved and is much stronger than when they were stuck in the water capital of the world, Altomare, Latios now more noticeably stronger than back then.
Though Latias is stronger than her older brother once she enters her Bonds Evolutions form to become Ash-Latias.
The cyan light flashed across Latios' body, but then all of it concentrated on the top of its head. The light ball was sprayed high into the sky and suddenly exploded the very sky, turning the battle into a spectacular meteorite show of it raining down from the sky over Moltres.
"It exploded! Trainer Ash's Latios summoned out a swarm of meteors, covering the entire battlefield!" The commentator was stunned by this magnificent scene. This was truly the power of a Legendary Pokémon revered by the Hoenn Region.
But he got something very wrong, this is not the power zone of a run of the mill Latios.
This is the power of Ash's Latios without going all out!
Tobias' fighting spirit was now burning hot like his Moltres, "Moltres, use Agility!"
He seemed to have changed yet again for the untold number. This battle was the purpose of his coming here, and its climax was soon to come.
Moltres looked at the meteors falling in it and looked to just envelope him without any fear or true emotions present in its eyes. Its fiery red figure disappeared instantly, and the countless meteorites fell down, leaving the ice field in a mess.
And with a bang, Moltres' figure appeared again. However, no matter how fast it was, it still failed to avoid the attack range of the Draco Meteor and was smashed down by some of them. It was forced to land on this ice field to recover a little and also not get pegged every single second.
"So strong!" Tobias became even more excited, and to show that, he moved his bang that was covering one of his eyes, "Use Fire Blast!"
Moltres flapped its wings violently, however before it could completely stabilize its body in the air, it had to release the shaped fireball towards the running Latios.
The fireball exploded in the air, forming the Kantonian character for "big."
The blast of the attack instantly reached Latios. However, Ash was ready this time for this attack, he wouldn't fall to a trick he himself regularly uses, "It's time, Luster Purge!"
This is Latios' exclusive signature move. As one of Ash's Pokémon, Ash naturally gave him special training for moves that would best match his battle style, so a signature move was a must.
The dazzling light of the Psychic-type immediately tore apart the whirlpool of flames and hit Moltres.
At this point, Tobias has understood that the level of Ash's real Latios is much higher than his "Moltres!" And also that its Fire-type skills have a very little effect on the Dragon-type Latios, so he had to do something about that.
But he did not retreat or evade, he couldn't as maybe this will be the very last battle his Moltres could handle, and he wanted a victory over a real Legendary Pokémon.
"Wind-style: Sky Attack!"
The ultimate move of the Flying-types, which normally would require the user to stock up on Flying-type energy, attacked Latios in the blink of an eye. Under the dazzling blue light, the power of the previous flames further increases its power.
This is probably one of the strongest moves belonging to this Moltres. Since Fire-type skills are not good enough, then it's only natural to use Flying-type skills to power up the attacks.
"Dragon Pulse!"
Ash clenched his fist fiercely and Latios understood the assignment, releasing a beam of energy out from his mouth, which turned into a long purple dragon before biting down on Moltres.
Boom!
"Use Air Slash!"
The explosion occurred at the very moment of contact, but Moltres managed to fly out of the smoke at the last moment and fiercely waved its flaming wings towards Latios.
The sharp blade of air hit Latios hard on the back, but it wasn't enough to make a large difference.
"Psychic!" Neither Ash nor his Latios cared about that little damage at this moment, when they were about to put a curtain over the battle. However, Latios was naturally annoyed, with his eyes flashing with purple light, trapping Moltres.
'Dang, it did little, but talk about being annoying,' Tobias secretly thought, but suddenly ordered,
"Moltres, use Roost!"
Moltres actually folded its wings under the law of the move, regaining some of its health at the cost of temporarily losing its Flying-type.
But Ash knew how to take full advantage of this, "Smash it down!"
A fierce light flashed in Latios's eyes and he quite literally did as Ash wanted, smashed the poor Moltres onto the cold field.
"Moltres!" Tobias exclaimed. But thankfully as a "Legendary Pokémon," Moltres' Roost finished faster than most ordinary Pokémon, making its next few countermeasures well thought out.
Under the call, Moltres opened its eyes fiercely, spread its wings of flame, and looked back at its Trainer.
No matter what, it will fight this Latios to prove that it was just as good, if not better, than those real ones.
"I understand you! Very well, Moltres, Hurricane!" Tobias cheered up, and a strong storm swept towards Latios.
For Ash, this was without a doubt the most enjoyable battle he had been part of in the entire Ever Grande Conference so far.
Not only him, his past opponents in Tyson and Morrison were also both trembling with excitement, looking forward to having such a high-intensity battle in the future.
"Dragon Pulse!"
Latios roared angrily, and Dragon Pulse turned into that same purple dragon, which not only held up against the normally stronger Hurricane, but also managed to defeat it and bit Moltres once again.
Tobias was hit by the same move twice, and in similar fashion. Moltres's injuries finally broke out, in a unique way at that. Roost this time couldn't recover even a quarter of its health, not to mention that he was hit by Psychic in the middle of it.
"Come on, finish this! Luster Purge!"
Ash launched the final attack.
The level gap between a real Legendary Pokémon like Latios and what Ash considered was a fake was difficult to make up.
Ash finally realized why this Moltres was off, it was because it gave him a similar Aura to those Clone Pokémon's he met with Mewtwo.
Only that this Moltres wasn't a finished product, only about half as good at most.
With a big bang, Moltres fell into the field that had now been mostly melted and turned into water.
"Moltres lost its ability to fight, meaning Latios wins this battle!" The referee announced the outcome of the battle in pure excitement. He was so happy that he was accepted to commentate on the battle.
"It's amazing! Tobias' Moltres has finally fallen. Now there is only the last one left in his hand.
What kind of Pokémon is it?" The commentator attracted the attention of every single one of the audience.
They all wanted to know what kind of Pokémon would be the last one to battle from Tobias' side, a very mysterious Trainer who hid his true powers away.
Tobias took back his Moltres and opened his eyes after taking a few deep breaths, "Please, Darkrai!"
This Darkrai, better known as the Nightmare God.
He is confident that with Darkrai, he can sweep all of Ash's Pokémon's, including this Latios who must be very tired and almost out of juice.
Why?
Because it's his absolute main Pokémon, the strongest one that survived those tests and the one that is closest to a real Legendary Pokémon.
But would ever have thought or believed that Ash's last Pokémon was also one of his strongest Pokémon's?
Everyone did.
"Stand by for chaos, Charizard!"
