Chapter 76
Ember
I'm walking through the streets of Moonsand when a car comes racing towards me.
It's a blur of sleek black metal, moving with a speed that's outright illegal on these narrow, cobbled paths. It's normally a no-vehicle zone; you don't know when a pack of pups might tumble into the street, shifted and chasing each other without a care.
But only one person drives like that here. Only one person would dare.
My mate.
My heart, which has been a tight, anxious knot since he left, gives a single, powerful thud against my ribs.
The bond, which had been a faint, straining thread over the distance, slams back into place with the force of a tidal wave, flooding my senses with him.
The car skids to a stop right in front of me, the tires kissing the curb. The passenger door swings open before the engine even finishes settling.
I don't hesitate.
I don't ask questions. In one fluid motion, I slide into the passenger seat, pulling the door shut.
