Chapter 619 - 619: Born from Death, the European Fever

John continued to observe the changes in the Star Spirit Divine Guards.

As time passed, these Divine Guards developed greater diversity.

However, it was not very visible when they were in their Star Spirit forms. Their personalities had simply become more distinct.

For example, those meant to be annoying became even more annoying.

Yes, Little Dragon.

John watched helplessly as Little Dragon strode proudly through a door.

Not long after, all the Star Spirits behind that door transformed together.

Little Dragon was chased the entire way, holding its head and fleeing like a rat.

"I didn't know Draco's influence was this great."

John felt numb. He discovered that Little Dragon truly never stopped drawing hatred for even a moment.

Just like its master, one drew hatred outside, while the other drew hatred inside.

Now John regretted it immensely. Back then, he should not have insisted for even that brief moment. He should have just let Little Dragon stay properly at Hogwarts.

However, it was not without benefits.

Little Dragon's defensive shield had gradually become stronger after constantly being beaten during this period.

Hector's talent points had all gone into Star Flash, linking all kinds of attacks into Star Flash.

Hermes was becoming more and more agile. With a clap of its hands, it drew two swords made of stone from the ground.

"The talents of these two Divine Guards are obvious. It seems Divine Guards need to stay beside people before they can develop more talents."

John saw the Divine Guard that had previously followed Neville. Its arms were a whole size thicker than the others, and a single punch could shake the earth. Its height had also changed, showing signs of growing toward nine feet.

Daphne's Divine Guard had mastered all kinds of attacks that could knock people down and hang them up, and had used them on Little Dragon many times.

After observing the growth of the Divine Guards, John glanced at the time.

"It's time for class."

The door of the Constellation Society appeared in the first-floor corridor, and John opened it and stepped out.

Today was Care of Magical Creatures.

Hagrid had already been waiting for some time.

"John." Hagrid waved at John.

John glanced in his direction. He was not at Hagrid's hut, but at the edge of the Forbidden Forest.

John walked over, and Hagrid motioned for him to keep his voice down.

"What's going on?"

Seeing a Thestral pacing back and forth outside, John asked Hagrid.

Hagrid said excitedly, "This is a rare moment. She's giving birth."

It was a female Thestral, and her restlessness came from waiting to deliver.

Hagrid had judged it from her body shape and movements.

This was the moment a small life was born, and Hagrid held his breath.

The Thestral walked beneath a tree and struck its head against the trunk to ease the pain of labour.

"Come on, little one," Hagrid secretly cheered it on.

John also watched this moment of birth intently.

Hagrid suddenly remembered that he was still a professor and began explaining quietly from the side, "Thestrals are regarded as ominous symbols in many places. Some people believe they appear where misfortune is born, but that is actually wrong."

"Those Thestrals were already there. It is death that allows wizards to see them, causing people to mistake them for misfortune."

"Because of that, many wizards don't welcome Thestrals, which has caused their habitats to decrease rapidly. In Britain, there are only two places left."

John listened. When it came to magical creatures, one could always trust Hagrid.

"Life born from death," John murmured to himself.

The Thestral, regarded as a symbol of death, finally gave birth after repeatedly striking the tree trunk.

A small Thestral fell to the ground. It swayed unsteadily, struggling even to stand.

The mother Thestral anxiously circled around it, urging her child to get up.

After many attempts, the young Thestral still could not rise.

Seeing this, Hagrid said regretfully, "This is a defective Thestral. It may be banished by the herd."

No matter where it was, newborns with defects were always abandoned.

The mother Thestral seemed to know of her child's defect as well. After circling it twice, she gently nudged the young Thestral with her head.

This was the young Thestral's final moment of warmth.

John looked at Hagrid and asked, "Aren't you going to help it?"

Hagrid shook his head and said, "I can't. If it can't survive on its own, it won't be able to return to the herd. Even wizards have to follow the laws of nature."

For newborns with defects, living was far crueler than dying.

This honest, simple-hearted giant saw things very clearly before nature.

John saw that the mother Thestral was preparing to make one final effort. If it could not stand this time, she would abandon the child.

The young Thestral seemed to know that it was about to be abandoned. Its pupil-less white eyes looked at its mother.

For the last time, the young Thestral exerted all its strength.

John raised a finger.

The young Thestral stood up. Just as it was about to fall, it staggered, but did not collapse.

"It did it!" Hagrid cheered.

John lowered his finger and watched the young Thestral stumble along beside its mother.

"Sometimes, all that's missing is a little effort."

He had not healed the Thestral's hind legs. He had merely planted a seed of walking in its mind.

The young Thestral had stood up through its own effort.

Those magical creatures born with defects were not so different from wizards who suffered under curses.

John said, "That is why wizards are different from magical creatures. They resist the rules set by nature."

Hagrid shed tears of excitement.

John began to understand why Hagrid could always maintain a purity different from everyone else.

Because everything he saw was at its purest.

Just as he was feeling emotional, John raised his head and looked over.

An owl was approaching him.

When it was less than ten metres away, a white figure appeared and kicked the owl away, sending more than a dozen feathers flying.

The falling newspaper was caught with perfect accuracy, and Basil descended to perch on John's arm.

"I think I should write a letter of apology to the Owl Post Office."

Glancing at Basil's smug expression, John opened the newspaper.

"Delivering a newspaper at this hour?"

Hagrid said strangely, "Don't they usually come in the morning?"

"I'm their super VIP member," John said with a shrug. "I can read the paper in advance."

Hagrid, who was somewhat unable to keep up with the times, fell into confusion. When had something like that appeared?

John opened the newspaper and began reading.

These were all first-hand reports. If he had not acquired half the shares, he would not have been able to obtain them.

"A European craze?"

His gaze swept across the newspaper.

Recently, one lively event after another had been happening in Europe.

The German Minister for Magic had been missing for several months, and the German Ministry of Magic could not remain without a leader.

Thus, a contest for the position of the new Minister for Magic had erupted within Germany, and Yelufan was one of the candidates.

That man was an admirer of Dumbledore. During the International Confederation of Wizards, he had also suggested that Dumbledore should return to take charge of the situation.

However, anyone who could get along with Dumbledore was usually targeted.

The other people in the German Ministry of Magic who were qualified to compete were all tacitly targeting Yelufan, because he controlled the most important Department of Magical Law Enforcement.

Among the candidates, John also saw another name.

"Ludwig Edgar?"

He narrowed his eyes. It would not be impossible for an Edgar to become Minister for Magic, but that would cause Durmstrang to fall into someone else's hands.

In the short term, a Minister for Magic held great power, but in the long run, the position was not as influential as the Headmaster of Durmstrang.

"Perhaps I can support someone."

John thoughtfully swept his gaze over Yelufan's competitors.

Turning to the next page, he saw news about Poland becoming increasingly active in the European section.

That Polish Minister for Magic was using all kinds of news to push Poland into everyone's sight.

The first thing that caught the eye was that the Polish Minister for Magic had been attacked by Acolytes.

The Acolytes had attacked a nation's Minister for Magic in public.

And they had almost succeeded. It was the frenzied crowd that stopped the Acolytes and allowed the Polish Minister for Magic to receive treatment.

The Saint was also swallowed by the anger of the people.

He died.

"This matter cannot be blamed on the public. They merely protected their hero."

"We do not know how many more people want to kill the hero, but they will have to step over bodies of flesh and blood to do so."

John looked at the commentary, and a strange feeling rose in his heart.

"A Poland that even the Star Disciples can't enter was casually infiltrated by Acolytes?"

John expressed doubt about this.
