- Ryo-dono, we are at your disposal," the respectful words snapped me out of my thoughts.
Turning around, I found two dozen clansmen led by a familiar jonin.
- Fusei-san, by order of the head, I'm here solely as iryonin and backup in case of emergencies," I waved my hands negatively at the veteran, "so you're in charge of the men.
- As you wish, Ryo-dono," he didn't argue and went to report to the Anbu commander.
Since the Nara were the last to arrive, the more than two hundred or so fighters were on their way in a couple of minutes, skirting the walls of Konoha and heading in the direction of the base.
Danzo had chosen a location that was not only a good distance from the village, but also from the main roadways of the Fire Country, reducing the chances of the dojutsu wielders detecting his secret base.
If there are hundreds of kilometers of forest without roads, settlements and towns around, the teams will surely choose a more convenient route. Besides, even knowing the exact location of the camouflaged entrance, the Hyuga could only detect the chakra anomaly a kilometer away from the target - the main rooms were far below ground level, five hundred meters down.
Thanks to Hyuga's dojutsu and the seals already used as traps on the walls of the tunnels leading from the surface, a rough map of the labyrinth could be determined and the commander, after a little consultation with a few subordinates, decided not to break through them, but to create his own entrance.
Anbu had enough Doton users to very quickly strip and reinforce the ground, creating a wide sloping tunnel leading to the opposite side of the base from the ones already in place. Most importantly, there appeared to be no permanent sentries on duty there, even at night.
It took only a dozen minutes to reach the inhabited rooms, and when they got close to the corridor between the rooms, the Doton users made an unnoticeable hole in the plain, unreinforced wall, just below the ceiling, and then let the Aburame clan members pass through.
From beneath their cloaks, hordes of bugs sprang from beneath their cloaks and, following Hyuga's instructions, made their way inside the base through the hole, streaming into several rooms where clusters of chakra users had been spotted.
It wasn't until then that a sufficient passage was made for the shinobi to get inside. The commander spoke to the clan commanders with a few gestures and divided the attacking ninjas into two parts, after which, we sprinted to different sides of the corridor.
I found myself included in the unit sent to mop up most of the base and the barracks of the full-fledged Ambu Ne operatives stationed there.
As we raced through the various rooms and split up in an orderly fashion when branches appeared, the masked fighters and Hyuga were almost on the move, disarming the enemies who had fallen prey to the chakra-sucking bugs, while Nara captured the fastest ones who had time to react to the invasion.
A couple minutes later, a deafening siren sounded, signaling the end of the surprise advantage, and at the same moment, shouts of commands from panicked rooters began to echo through the base.
Unfortunately, even though we had time to get to the barracks, where the main staff was sleeping, they were awake in time and the first three Anbu who entered the room through the broken jutsu wall were met with a barrage of metal and simple elemental techniques.
Fortunately, the Doton users proved to be quite experienced and backed up their colleagues, erecting a protective wall and allowing them to retreat back with only minor damage.
The defenses were torn down, but no further attacks came, two crowds of ninja frozen on either side of the broken wall - half-dressed Anbu Ne and regular Anbu with flecks of clan fighters.
