The teacher left the dining hall, and the cacophony of voices echoed through the hall once again.
Ryan watched her go.
He turned back to his plate, but his appetite had completely vanished. The roasted meat sat untouched, growing cold.
Eleanor was eating methodically, her expression thoughtful. James and Jared had gone quiet as well, too busy gorging on their food.
Ryan leaned closer to Eleanor. "Hey Eleanor, since Toris wasn't trying to check for my second element back at the hideout, but instead he was actually trying to kill me… doesn't that mean you can check what my second element is without the worry of me suddenly blacking out and murdering you?"
Eleanor's fork stopped halfway to her mouth. She set it down slowly and turned to look at him, her mismatched eyes sharp.
"Keep your voice down, you idiot," she hissed. "Only heroes have two elements. Are you trying to tell everyone in here about your secret?"
