Chapter 3 - An Unexpected Kindness

The inspection ended just before noon.

Aaron stepped into the back seat of his black Rolls-Royce.

His assistant, Ethan Brooks, closed the door behind him.

"Headquarters, sir?"

Aaron loosened his tie slightly.

"Yes."

The convoy slowly drove away from Steel Medical Center.

Within minutes...

The hospital returned to normal.

Everyone breathed a sigh of relief.

"We survived," one nurse whispered.

"I thought he was going to fire half the staff."

"So did I."

Meanwhile...

Celina was in the staff cafeteria eating the sandwich she had packed from home.

Two slices of bread.

One boiled egg.

A bottle of water.

Nothing fancy.

She smiled anyway.

Across the room, two cleaners complained.

"I can't believe Mr. Steel came today."

"They say he's worth billions."

"I heard he owns half of Rosewood."

Celina laughed softly.

"People exaggerate."

"You've never seen him before today?"

"No."

"What did you think?"

She shrugged.

"He seems..."

The women leaned forward.

"...lonely."

They stared at her.

"Lonely?"

"Yes."

"He looked like someone carrying something heavy inside."

The cafeteria fell quiet.

None of them had expected that answer.

Across town...

Aaron's convoy stopped at a traffic light.

Suddenly...

He noticed an elderly homeless veteran struggling to push a broken wheelchair across the street.

Cars began honking impatiently.

Without hesitation...

Aaron opened the car door.

His security team panicked.

"Sir!"

Ignoring them, Aaron walked into the street.

He helped the old man across safely.

Then quietly handed him his business card.

"Visit this address tomorrow."

The old man looked confused.

"For what?"

Aaron simply replied,

"For a better wheelchair."

Then he walked back to his car.

No cameras.

No reporters.

No publicity.

Just another act of kindness no one would ever know about.

Back at the hospital...

Celina finished her shift.

As she left through the front entrance, she noticed an elderly woman struggling with several heavy grocery bags.

Without thinking...

She smiled.

"May I help you?"

The woman looked relieved.

"Oh, thank you, dear."

Celina carried the bags all the way to the bus stop.

Neither of them realized...

Someone sitting inside a passing black Rolls-Royce had witnessed everything.

Aaron glanced through the window.

His eyes followed the young cleaner until the traffic light turned green.

He looked away.

"...Interesting."

For the first time in years...

A stranger had crossed his mind twice in one day.
