The Joker's several appearances had already left a huge impact on everyone in the theater.
Past villains were evil and cruel, but none of them had ever carried the same strange charm as the Joker.
Xu Can's performance had created a completely new clown for the audience, one that respected the original character while also surpassing it.
Now the film critics finally understood why Xu Can had not rushed into Spider-Man 2 or immediately played his own Marvel character.
Instead, he had gone next door to DC to play the Joker.
He was enjoying the performance.
Only the Joker in The Dark Knight could fully release the joy of acting.
At this point, an hour had already passed in the film, and the confrontation between Batman and the Joker had truly begun.
The Joker continued his killing spree. After finishing off the commissioner and the judge, he turned his sights toward Gotham's mayor.
Bruce Wayne used high-tech equipment to analyze fingerprints from bullet fragments and quickly locked onto the target.
The next day, during the mayor's public speech, police officers collectively mourned the death of their chief.
As the mayor gave his speech, clowns had already blended into the crowd below.
During the salute, one of the clowns attempted to shoot the mayor.
Fortunately, Chief Gordon saved him, taking the bullet himself.
In the chaos, the Joker escaped.
"Huh? Gordon is dead?"
"No, he just went offline like that?"
Movie fans exclaimed in shock.
Anyone familiar with Batman knew Commissioner Gordon was an important character in the comics.
He had died before officially becoming commissioner.
How would the story continue now?
The audience was stunned, and no one even had time to think too deeply. They were afraid of missing even a single shot.
At the press conference the next day, Bruce planned to reveal to the world that he was Batman.
If he did not appear again, the Joker's killings would only grow worse.
The famous Iron Man scene seemed about to appear in Batman.
Unexpectedly, Harvey Dent suddenly stepped forward in public and claimed he was Batman.
The media below instantly exploded.
Bruce was stunned.
Was Harvey acting as his substitute?
The police had to escort "Batman" Harvey Dent to prison, but on the way, they inevitably ran into the Joker.
He lay against the side of a truck, firing a submachine gun at the convoy as he pleased.
And for some reason, he looked inexplicably handsome.
The entire convoy chase and collision scene had been shot practically by Nolan.
The texture of real vehicles crashing together made the audience feel immersed in the scene. They could not help sweating for Harvey Dent.
After a series of explosions, gunfire, and vehicle chases, the scene pushed the excitement in the theater higher and higher.
Batman appeared in the Batmobile and took out the Joker's followers.
The Joker chased Harvey Dent in a monster truck.
At the critical moment, Batman rode out on the Bat-Pod and used high-tech cables to entangle the truck.
Then came the most shocking practical shot in the film.
Xu Can had not even wanted to include this shot in the trailer.
He wanted the audience sitting before the IMAX screen to experience the full impact directly.
Under the pull of the cables, the eighteen-wheeler flipped into the air and smashed heavily onto the ground.
Boom.
The Dolby sound effects, combined with the overwhelming force of the giant screen, made it feel as though a real truck had overturned inside the theater.
The fans were pinned to their seats, their hearts pounding wildly.
They did not know that this shot had only been filmed once.
The Joker struggled out from the front of the overturned truck. Facing the Bat-Pod, he stood still, trying to force Batman to break his rule and kill him.
"Come on. Come on."
"Just do it. Kill me."
"Come on. Hit me."
That kind of madness, unmoved even before speeding wheels, was simply chilling.
Batman rushed toward him, but in the end, he still could not cross that line.
The Bat-Pod missed him by a small margin and crashed uncontrollably to the ground.
The Joker did not move an inch.
He stood there completely unharmed.
One of his subordinates tried to remove Batman's mask, only to be electrocuted by Batman's technology.
The Joker laughed wildly and kicked the little brother several times.
"Ehahahaha, oh ho ho."
His unreasonable, illogical behavior made the image of the Joker sink even deeper into people's hearts.
Just as the Joker was about to take control of Batman, Gordon placed a gun against his head.
James Gordon.
He was not dead.
He had been pretending to stay with Harvey Dent to capture the Joker with his own hands.
This reversal brought applause from the theater, and the audience became even more excited.
However, there was no progress bar in the theater, and the story had already reached its halfway point.
It would never be that simple.
The next shot was another famous scene.
The Joker sat quietly in the cell, staring straight ahead through the iron bars.
His gaze seemed to pierce through the screen, making the audience uneasy.
Because he had arrested the Joker, Gordon was promoted to the real commissioner.
As the police officers congratulated their new chief, harsh applause suddenly echoed from the cell.
The Joker applauded Gordon with a sarcastic smile.
His arrogant expression seemed to take no one seriously.
Yet no one could do anything to him.
Then came the news.
Harvey Dent and Rachel were missing.
It had to be the Joker's doing.
Commissioner Gordon's interrogation brought no results. Then the lights in the darkened room switched on.
Behind the Joker, ten more black figures appeared.
Batman.
It was another confrontation between the protagonist and the villain.
But the audience vaguely felt that the villain always controlled the scene.
Just as Xu Can used his terrifying acting ability to seize absolute initiative, the Joker in the film controlled every rhythm.
Opposite him, Batman, played by Christian Bale, could barely keep up.
Christian Bale was a powerful actor with rich experience. He had appeared in many films and won many awards.
Xu Can currently had only two works, both commercial action blockbusters without awards.
But anyone with eyes could instantly sense the gap between the two powerful actors.
"To be honest, it would be unreasonable if Xu Can doesn't win an Oscar this time."
That was the thought in many viewers' hearts.
The Joker did not confess.
Instead, he poked directly at Bruce Wayne's weakness.
"I didn't want to kill you. My existence has no meaning without you."
"You complete me."
"You're just like me. You're a monster in the eyes of others. Maybe when Gotham no longer needs you, they'll arrest you too."
"When order collapses, these self-proclaimed civilized people will eat each other. I'll prove it to you."
Batman could not endure it anymore and began violently forcing the confession out of him.
Even after being knocked to the ground, the Joker still laughed wildly.
He finally gave two addresses.
Harvey Dent and Rachel were both tied to bombs, and Batman could only choose one.
There was not much time left.
The Joker had calculated everything.
Batman decisively chose to rush toward Rachel, but when he arrived, he found Harvey Dent there instead.
He had been tricked by the Joker again.
The explosion shattered half of Harvey Dent's face.
Rachel, beloved by both men, was killed.
When the police all rushed out to rescue them, the Joker had already made arrangements at the police station.
A bomb had been planted inside a suspect's body.
The Joker detonated it, and the police station was instantly reduced to rubble.
When the Joker rose from the ruins, it was like a devil descending from hell into the world.
Then he hijacked a police car and escaped.
The madness of his head sticking out of the police car became a world-famous image.
The entire audience once again let out low exclamations.
Why could villains be so handsome?
Xu Can played Spider-Man and became the most handsome Spider-Man in history.
He played John Wick and became the most handsome killer in history.
Now, he had become the most handsome villain.
Gordon had pretended to be dead to arrest the Joker, thinking he was on the fifth floor.
Who would have thought the Joker had allowed himself to be arrested on purpose, just to free Lau, who held key evidence?
This wave of clown-like madness stood above the atmosphere.
It looked down on Batman.
It looked down on Gordon.
It looked down on all of Gotham.
The Joker publicly stated in a live broadcast that he wanted the death of the lawyer from Wayne Group who was preparing to expose Batman's true identity.
If the lawyer did not die, he would blow up a hospital every hour.
Gotham instantly fell into chaos.
Every hospital was busy evacuating patients.
Taking advantage of the panic, the Joker came to Harvey Dent's ward dressed as a nurse, looking ridiculous enough to make people laugh and shudder at the same time.
"Hey, Harvey. I actually have no grudge against you. I was in jail when you and Rachel were kidnapped."
"You planned it."
"Do you think I'm someone with a plan? The gangsters and the police all have plans. They're all schemers. I'm the same as chaos. And chaos is absolutely fair."
Harvey Dent had lost Rachel and half his face.
Now, he accepted the Joker's idea.
What rules and systems?
They were useless.
Only chaos was fair.
The only thing that could decide life and death was fate.
The Bright Knight went offline.
Two-Face entered the stage.
After the Joker left the hospital, he took the remote control and blew up the entire building.
Some parts of the explosives did not detonate immediately.
He paused and tapped the detonator suspiciously.
Boom.
The sudden explosion startled him, and then the Joker jumped into the car and left with a maniacal laugh.
Xu Can's performance once again made everyone feel what true natural acting looked like.
No trace of performance could be seen.
Every detail looked like the Joker when zoomed in.
Beyond the performance, the hospital bombing scene itself was also realistic and shocking.
The practical-shooting fanatic had really made it look like a real explosion.
The film critics in the media were dumbfounded.
Did they really blow up a hospital?
They would have to ask clearly during the Q&A later.
After blowing up the hospital, the Joker's game escalated again.
This time, he hijacked two fully loaded cruise ships.
One ship was full of ordinary passengers.
The other was full of criminals.
The Joker installed bombs on both ships and gave the detonators to the people on the opposite ships.
If they wanted to survive, they had to blow up the other ship.
Otherwise, everyone would die.
Batman also crossed a taboo at this moment. He activated all citizens' mobile phones at once, using the sonar system to locate the Joker.
A race against time began.
When the audience saw this, they all thought the criminals would definitely detonate the bomb first.
They were all vicious bad guys.
Unexpectedly, the criminals threw away the detonator.
The citizens voted to detonate the other ship, but in the end, no one dared to press the button.
The only one who could save both ships was Batman.
Using the sonar device, Batman successfully found the Joker's location.
After seeing through the Joker's trick, he rescued the kidnapped police officer and found the Joker himself before midnight.
The Joker was very disappointed.
Neither ship had exploded.
Were they all really that kind?
Just as the Joker was about to detonate the bombs himself, Batman took action and confronted him.
They fought together, and Batman launched a rope that caught the Joker and left him hanging before he could fall.
The Spider-Man fans in the audience called themselves experts.
"This city just showed you what justice is."
"No. When their faith collapses, do you think they will still be righteous? Gotham's Knight of Light, Harvey Dent, what will happen when everyone sees what he looks like now?"
The Joker hung upside down, still talking and laughing.
It turned out that the fallen Two-Face, Harvey Dent, had begun using coin flips to take revenge, killing multiple corrupt police officers and gang leaders.
Two-Face had kidnapped Commissioner Gordon and his family.
If Harvey Dent's depravity became known to the public, Gotham would plunge into chaos again.
"If you want to drive people crazy, all it takes is a gentle push. Hahaha."
Batman could no longer care about the Joker and quickly went to save Commissioner Gordon's son. In the process, he killed Harvey Dent, adding another life to his hands.
At the end of the film, the audience thought it would end like an ordinary movie.
Batman became Gotham City's hero, and the Joker was imprisoned in Arkham Asylum, waiting for his next chance.
However, the movie co-written by Nolan and Xu Can finally brought everyone a small twist.
To protect Gotham's faith, Two-Face Harvey Dent's crimes were concealed.
He was still remembered as the righteous Knight of Light.
Batman took all the blame for the murdered police officers, for Harvey Dent's death, and for kidnapping Commissioner Gordon's family.
"I can't let the clown win this round, even if I sacrifice myself."
"They will hunt you, and Gotham will despise you."
"Yes. You are here to capture me. It has to be this way."
"But Batman did nothing wrong." Commissioner Gordon's son was puzzled, just like the audience.
"Because this is the hero Gotham needs. Because he can withstand all the darkness."
"He is the silent guardian. The guardian of Gotham."
"He's the Dark Knight."
At the end of the film, Commissioner Gordon's sad voice-over sounded.
Batman rode the Bat-Pod into the night, his cape trembling behind him, and disappeared into Gotham's darkness.
Dong.
Dong.
Dong.
Dong.
Dong-dong-dong-dong.
Hans Zimmer's score arrived at exactly the right moment. Heavy strings and drums struck everyone's soul.

Pure black filled the screen.
There were no fancy special effects.
Only lines of pure white subtitles kept scrolling.
Thousands of premiere viewers sat rigidly in their seats without making a sound.
Only Hans Zimmer's Dark Knight theme lingered in their hearts.
If the movie had ended with Batman victorious and everyone happy, it would at most have been considered an excellent commercial film, a successful comic book movie not inferior to Spider-Man.
However, the ending elevated the entire film.
It changed Batman from a surface-level superhero into a Dark Knight who carried a heavy burden and silently protected Gotham from within the darkness.
At this point, it had become art.
The final shock wave was so powerful that everyone continued savoring it.
Only after the subtitles ended completely and the lights turned on did everyone stand and offer their highest respect to The Dark Knight.
"Hell yeah. Perfect. Woohoo. Great."
Amid the enthusiastic cheers, Stewart suddenly realized his girlfriend was shouting too.
When she first came to the theater, hadn't she looked aloof and indifferent?
Why was she so excited now?
"You think it looks good?"
"Of course. This is simply the most exciting movie I've seen in years. Why didn't you take me to see Batman before? The Joker is so handsome."
The corners of Stewart's mouth twitched.
Before?
Nolan had not made this movie before.
Xu Can had not starred in it before.
Where was he supposed to take her?
But he had to admit, in his heart, this was simply the best comic book movie.
Although it did not completely match the original work, it had thoroughly captured Batman's charm.
Wonderful.
The applause lasted several minutes before the main creative staff came on stage.
After that came the traditional question-and-answer session.
The media already had countless questions waiting to be asked.
