There was no poison in the dinner. There were many dishes, but little meat, and the bread was hard. It made me realize how luxurious life had been while I was in the Rear Palace.
The village headman was surely going all out because I was a prince. Even so, it looked inferior compared to the Rear Palace. Did that mean that even as mayor, his standard of living was not particularly high? Well, I shouldn't judge from only a single meal.
Bathing was of course impossible; Stevie simply brought hot water and wiped my body clean. The towels felt like they had never been treated with fabric softener, but this would probably be the standard until we reached the Mainz Kingdom. The phrase "Luxury is the enemy!" floated into my mind.
The bed in the room had washed-out sheets with a few stains remaining. I could only hope there were no mites or fleas. Just as I was thinking that, Lily came and cleaned it for me. Was my Purity 3 not enough? I hadn't tried it myself.
