Chapter 689 - 689. A Great Harvest! An Unexpected Surprise!

There was no mistake!

That furious voice just now was absolutely the evil god that had invaded the Witcher world a few months ago.

The howling in his mind—"——Usurpation——Rebellion——Blasphemer——"

The chaotic and savage mental fluctuations matched perfectly. So,

"Does that mean the evil god's treasure chest is plundered in real time?"

Allen felt it was a bit absurd, like a lottery whose first prize was a sports car—only for the organizers to pull out a gun by the roadside after the winner drew the prize and rob a sports car on the spot.

What kind of American-style zero-dollar lottery was this?

Was the Witcher's Journal really this wild?

Directly carving flesh off an evil god.

As for the lack of a cutscene, that wasn't surprising either. Even the evil god's name had to be hidden with garbled characters; its true form probably carried some kind of corruption he still couldn't withstand.

Pulling himself out of the shock brought by the evil god's chest, Allen heard the cold system notification still chiming "ding ding ding" in his ears, and his thoughts moved.

[Ding! Obtained: Hymn to Pure Wisdom ×5]

From the name alone, Hymn to Pure Wisdom had nothing to do with an evil god. Instead, it sounded more like a blessing from a righteous deity, or a magical item used by mages.

After complaining inwardly a few times, the witcher stopped guessing blindly. He jumped to his inventory, and his gaze settled on the final cluster of faint blue crystalline mist.

The instant his eyes landed on it, a cool clarity welled up in his mind, as if he had taken a deep breath after drinking a cup of strong mint water.

The fatigue and dizziness brought on by the evil god's mental fluctuations ravaging his sea of consciousness vanished immediately.

[Name: Hymn to Pure Wisdom]

[Type: Divine Item]

[Effect: Equivalent to 200,000 experience points. After use, can increase any non–bloodline-based skill of any target / multiple targets. If a skill cannot be selected, it will be randomly assigned. Can be used multiple times until its divinity is exhausted.]

[Remark: Incredible! God-slayers are not uncommon, but you are the first to strip divinity from an evil god whose divine domain is wisdom while still a mortal! Still, be careful—evil gods are not known for their generosity!]

"Two hundred thousand experience points—"

Allen froze for a moment, subconsciously counting on his fingers, trying to convert it into more familiar units.

Then in the next second, his body stiffened. Heat surged through him, his breathing grew heavy, and his heart rate skyrocketed.

"Two hundred experience orbs?!!" the witcher cried out in a shrill voice.

No!

That was just a single Hymn to Pure Wisdom. One alone was equivalent to two hundred experience orbs.

He had just obtained five of them—that was one thousand experience orbs!

Good heavens!

Since transmigrating to this world, had the total number of experience orbs he had obtained even reached one thousand?

Allen was overjoyed.

To be honest, experience orbs as rewards generally couldn't be called the worst possible chest drops, but they definitely weren't considered surprises either.

But—but that depended on the quantity!

Just like how no one might bother picking up one unit of currency dropped on the ground, but no one would ever ignore twenty thousand.

As his personal level rose, it had become increasingly difficult for Allen to obtain experience orbs.

In most battles, scraping by with a D rating would net him only a handful.

The real windfalls—those high-rating battles—were extremely dangerous, and mostly matters of chance.

Yet Signs, spells, knowledge, the Path of Beast Roars—

the places that demanded experience orbs were only increasing, all of them bottomless pits.

These thousand experience orbs—no—these five Hymns to Pure Wisdom had truly resolved his most urgent problem.

Realizing the weight represented by the Hymn to Pure Wisdom, a burning flame ignited in the witcher's mind, and a mad thought instantly surfaced.

"Where can I find that evil god?!! I want to kill Him a few more times!"

Of course, that was impossible.

The evil god wasn't even in this world. Extending a tentacle across dimensions was already unimaginably difficult, requiring tens of thousands of necrophages as sacrifices.

And the creation of necrophages itself required the slaughter of countless humans.

The summoning ritual had nearly succeeded only because the Black Death years ago had claimed massive numbers of lives, which were hastily buried in the Mahakam Mountains.

Now, even if the mastermind behind the summoning ritual had likely escaped, quietly launching a similar ultra-large-scale ritual again was virtually impossible.

Naturally, the difficulty of an evil god descending was hardly a bad thing. Allen wasn't so deranged as to sacrifice civilian lives for his own benefit.

With some regret, the witcher gradually calmed down.

After calming himself, he gave it some thought.

"Although Hymn to Pure Wisdom is equivalent to a thousand experience orbs, in practice there are still differences," Allen thought. "At the very least, the Path of Beast Roars can only be progressed with experience orbs. That's irreplaceable."

"But then again—"

Looking at the panel for Hymn to Pure Wisdom, Allen lowered his head in contemplation for a moment, and suddenly realized that its optimal application wasn't Signs, alchemy, or genetic mutation studies—areas where experience orbs could already be used.

Instead, it lay in domains where experience orbs were powerless—

"After use, can increase any non–bloodline-based skill of any target / multiple targets—any target—"

Chewing over the wording on the Hymn to Pure Wisdom panel, he realized its best use case was for the witchers of the Witcher Corps, whose skills could only be improved using achievement points.

A single drowner or ghoul provided just a bit of achievement credit. Converted through the multiplier of Corps Skill: Teach, that amounted to only about 20 experience points—two minor experience shards, 0.02 of an experience orb.

But no matter how many experience orbs he had, they couldn't directly increase the combat strength of a single Witcher Corps member.

Honestly, the Witcher's Journal being able to enhance people other than Allen was already remarkable. Combined with Heart Essence Fluid and purification spirits, it was more than enough to help members get through the awkward early-stage power gap of being witchers.

Besides, members weren't limited to improving solely through achievement points. Achievement points were essentially just a supplementary system.

Once the Witcher Corps gradually grew stronger, and skills like Corps Skill: Teach (consuming achievement points to convert at a 1:2 ratio—1:1 at LV1—into skill experience for members) were leveled up, efficiency would rise rapidly.

Which legitimate knightly order in the Witcher world didn't need ten or more years from founding to forming real combat strength?

The Witcher Corps already had the greatest cheat imaginable.

But Allen was impatient—and he had no choice but to be. Because of the Witcher world itself, because of the Wild Hunt, because of the White Frost, he didn't have the luxury of waiting for the Witcher Corps to slowly bear fruit. Even if it meant forcing growth, he had to accelerate.

Hymn to Pure Wisdom was the best fertilizer for the Witcher Corps.

Of course, not all of the Hymns would be invested into the corps. His alchemy was still only LV4, while the brewing requirements for Enhanced Blizzard and Enhanced Full Moon had already risen to LV5.

Second mutation also required investment. Since he didn't have much time to research it personally, he could only brute-force it with experience orbs.

His genetic mutation studies were currently at LV7. Advancing to LV8 required one hundred experience orbs—another major expense.

Not to mention other practical skills. If the Red Rider Standard Synchronized Breathing Method wasn't raised to a sufficiently high level, how could he teach it to others?

And then there were the Red Rider Standard Synchronized Legion Combat Spell: Blade, and the Red Rider Standard Synchronized Legion Defensive Spell: Shield—There were plenty of places that needed experience!

One bottomless pit after another. Everything had to be planned holistically.

That said, investing in the Witcher Corps wasn't entirely unrewarded.

For the expedition to The Valley of Thousand Monsters, he planned to bring Hughes, Erni, and the others along.

With a bit more strength, perhaps these investments would pay for themselves very soon.

Moreover, a Witcher Corps with formidable combat power, paired with their exceptionally young appearances, would serve as a powerful deterrent—and political capital—during the expedition to the Valley of Thousand Monsters.

Add to that the support of the Temple of Melitele.

After the expedition, the Wolf School's standing on the Northern Continent would undoubtedly be very different.

And if one also considered the other Wolf School witchers participating in the expedition, his succession to the position of Wolf School Chief at the end of the year would surely proceed much more smoothly.

After roughly considering how to use the Hymn to Pure Wisdom, Allen didn't dwell on it for long.

The Hymn to Pure Wisdom wasn't a time-limited item. There was plenty of time to think about how to allocate it.

[Treasure Chests: Sunny Gobert's Chest ×5, Miguel Courtney's Chest ×5, Sorcerer's Chest ×5, Carrion Lord's Chest ×5, Corpse Demon's Chest ×4]

There were twenty-four treasure chests remaining. Judging by the previous ratio—twenty-seven yielding gold-quality items—there should only be eleven gold-quality ones left.

Among them, there wasn't anything Allen particularly wanted, nor even any cutscenes he especially cared about—

With most of the radicals having essentially perished in that battle, Hen Gedymdeith, out of gratitude for having his life saved, would in all likelihood stand on their side. There was no especially critical information that still needed to be confirmed.

To be honest, trying to extract useful intelligence from the cutscenes of most treasure chests was, in itself, not very realistic.

This was different from the Aen Elle chests. Because of unfamiliarity with the Alder Folk, even background information about Tir ná Lia could provide quite a lot of value.

But Ban Ard—

With Allen's current strength, he was already not far from being able to steamroll it outright.

Still, there was no rush at the moment. The Temple of Melitele was peaceful and undisturbed, and gold-quality cutscenes were still worth watching.

Only this time, Allen didn't plan to open them one category at a time.

[Ding! Sunny Gobert's Chest ×5, Miguel Courtney's Chest ×5, Sorcerer's Chest ×5, Carrion Lord's Chest ×5, Corpse Demon's Chest ×4 opened!]

In an instant, eleven streaks of golden light burst forth in succession, followed immediately by three purples, four blues, and six whites—

What kind of unexpected windfall was this?!!
