The past three months have been an unexpectedly colorful period for former Navy Lieutenant Commander Steve McGarrett. Although his military service had given him extensive combat experience, and he had carried out secret missions in many countries and regions around the world, nothing could compare to the surreal events that began last Christmas.
First, he helped a New York writer rescue his daughter, who had been kidnapped by a Japanese intelligence agency. At that time, everything still seemed normal. However, once the writer got involved, things took a turn that Steve could never have anticipated.
After leading his team to rescue the red-haired girl, the writer suddenly provided him with detailed intelligence on the Japanese intelligence agency's operations in Hawaii—information that even U.S. counterintelligence agencies might not have possessed. The writer generously handed over this data to Steve, allowing him and his team, with the cooperation of the Honolulu Police Department, to sweep through the entire state of Hawaii and dismantle the Japanese intelligence network that had been operating there since World War II. The results were astonishing.
Then, while the writer was in Hawaii to pick up his kidnapped daughter and spend Christmas with his family, he secretly informed Steve that the real killer of his father was an Asian man named "Wu Fa." This man, it turned out, had a deep and close relationship with Steve's mentor, Governor Jameson of Hawaii, who had authorized Steve to establish a special law enforcement unit with extensive authority in the state. In other words, Governor Jameson was also implicated in the death of Steve's father.
Before the writer left Hawaii after his vacation, he even gave Steve a taste of cutting-edge technology. The writer provided him with a software program called "God's Eye," which, despite having only a one-month trial period, left Steve and his team in awe. By inputting precise details of a target into the software, it could locate anyone within five minutes. This incredible tool played a significant role in capturing the Japanese intelligence operatives and sleeper agents in Hawaii.
Steve even used the software to track down Wu Fa's whereabouts. Although Wu Fa was currently hiding in a bunker in the outskirts of Kaesong, North Korea, Steve managed to uncover evidence of past communications between Wu Fa and Governor Jameson, confirming that the writer had not deceived him. Governor Jameson was indeed connected to the man responsible for his father's death.
However, even with this evidence, Steve couldn't take immediate action against Wu Fa or Governor Jameson. Without more concrete proof, he couldn't openly investigate the governor in Hawaii. After all, his authority in the state was granted by Governor Jameson himself.
As everyone knows, the United States is a federal republic, and Hawaii, being the last state to join the Union and the only one located far from the mainland, operates almost like a kingdom under its governor. Governor Jameson had the power to grant Steve extensive authority in Hawaii, allowing him to combat serious crimes and terrorism. In essence, Governor Jameson was the de facto ruler of Hawaii, with more influence in the state than even the President of the United States.
Meanwhile, the other suspect in his father's murder, Wu Fa, was hiding in North Korea, a place where U.S. military influence couldn't reach. As much as Steve wanted to capture Wu Fa, he couldn't just storm into North Korea with his team. Reluctantly, Steve had to put his revenge plans on hold and quietly gather evidence against Wu Fa and Governor Jameson.
He couldn't even inform his team about his investigation into his boss, so he worked alone, using the clues he had gathered during the one-month trial of the "God's Eye" software. He was waiting for the day when Wu Fa would leave North Korea and come to Hawaii, giving him the opportunity to arrest the man and use his testimony to bring down Governor Jameson.
Just as Steve was preparing to investigate his boss and expose the corrupt dealings between Governor Jameson and Wu Fa, he received a phone call from Castle in early March. Castle, sounding mysterious, told Steve that he needed his help but couldn't discuss the details over the phone. Without hesitation, Steve took leave and flew to New York on Castle's private jet.
Upon arriving in New York, Steve was shocked to learn that Castle's request for help was related to an upcoming attack on the White House and the newly inaugurated U.S. President. The attack was planned to coincide with a meeting between the South Korean Prime Minister and the President. The conspirators included Aamir Barkawi, who was being hunted by the U.S. worldwide, the Japanese intelligence agency that had recently suffered heavy losses in the U.S., and a secret organization within the U.S. that opposed the current President.
Castle wanted Steve to go to the White House in Washington, D.C., under the guise of being a bodyguard for the President's political advisor, and prepare for the attack. According to Castle's plan, the President would use this event to expose and eliminate the members of the secret organization hidden within the U.S. political and military establishment.
Surprisingly, the President had agreed to Castle's audacious plan. This not only amazed Steve at Castle's boldness but also deepened his understanding of the trust between Castle and the President.
After confirming that he wouldn't be the only outside help—he would be teamed up with Bob Lee Swagger, the legendary Marine sniper known as the "world's deadliest marksman," and Seeley Booth, a renowned Army Ranger sniper—Steve agreed to Castle's request. Whether it was out of loyalty to Castle, who had revealed the truth about his father's death, or his own sense of patriotism, Steve couldn't say no. Along with Gianna and her family, whom he had met during Christmas, Steve headed to the White House.
True to Castle's word, Steve and Bob received the highest level of authorization signed by President Benjamin himself. The team was further strengthened by the addition of Seeley Booth, another legendary sniper from the Army's 75th Ranger Regiment.
With this trio of elite operatives from the Navy, Marines, and Army, Steve finally felt confident about facing the impending attack. After all, this was the U.S. capital and the President's residence. According to Castle, their task was to hold off the attackers long enough for the National Guard, stationed nearby, to arrive within five minutes.
Initially unsure, Steve felt reassured knowing that they had both a strategic sniper and a tactical sniper on their side. Even if there was a mole within the Secret Service, with the three of them providing additional firepower, the Secret Service should be able to hold out for five minutes. With their combined skills, they might even succeed in their mission...
