Steve McGarrett didn't reveal to Detective Danny Williams over the phone that he was already fully armed and stealthily closing in on Wo Fat's safe house. Instead, he reassured Danny that he would keep an eye on the target and wait for backup to arrive.
Danny, suspecting nothing, promised to arrive soon with Captain Lou Grover, Kono Kalakaua, and a contingent of Honolulu Police Department officers before hanging up.
Back in New York, Castle and Harry were comfortably watching the live feed from Wo Fat's security cameras. Jarvis had hacked the safe house's surveillance system, and satellite footage of Wo Fat's arrival provided them with a comprehensive view. They saw Wo Fat calmly seated on a sofa, sipping a drink and contemplating his next move against Steve.
Castle and Jarvis had already disabled the building's security systems. This meant that Wo Fat had no idea Steve was quietly approaching, now just thirty meters from the house.
Through Steve's Bluetooth headset, Castle fed him real-time information.
"Relax, Steve. You're invisible to him. We've got the security system disabled. You could walk up and knock on the door if you wanted, and he wouldn't know," Castle teased, his voice dripping with amusement.
Castle also informed Steve that Danny and the backup team would arrive within ten minutes. It felt eerily familiar to Steve—like the missions he led during his time with the Navy SEALs, where precise intelligence and logistics made all the difference.
This time, however, there were no additional operatives or heavy fire support. It was just him—racing against time before backup arrived and complicated the mission.
Steve switched to full mission mode. He adjusted his short-barreled M4A1 carbine, attached with tactical accessories, and silently breached the house from the rear entrance. He made his way through the building, each step bringing him closer to the man who had orchestrated his father's murder.
Inside, Wo Fat sipped his drink, oblivious to the danger creeping ever closer. Only when Steve's shadow loomed behind him did Wo Fat sense something was wrong. He turned slowly, his eyes widening in shock as he saw Steve pointing a gun directly at him.
For a moment, Wo Fat froze. How had Steve found him? He had kept the details of John McGarrett's murder buried deep. Yet here was Steve, his eyes burning with hatred and vengeance.
Raising his hands in an attempt to de-escalate, Wo Fat slowly stood up. His mind raced, trying to think of a way to survive.
"McGarrett, we don't have to do this," he began cautiously, already calculating how he might manipulate the situation. Perhaps he could rely on his connections, like Governor Jameson, to secure his release if Steve arrested him.
But he never got the chance to continue.
Steve's expression remained cold and resolute. Without a word, he fired three rapid shots, center mass. The 5.56mm rounds punched through Wo Fat's chest, sending him crashing backward onto the sofa.
The impact knocked the wind out of him, and a wave of agony surged through his body. His mind, however, couldn't comprehend what had just happened.
He couldn't believe it. Steve hadn't come to arrest him. Steve had come to kill him.
Coughing and struggling to breathe, Wo Fat tried to speak but couldn't force the words out. His vision blurred, and as he lay slumped on the sofa, he took his last breath—his life snuffed out by the man whose family he had destroyed.
In another timeline, Wo Fat would have caused Steve endless problems, but Castle's intervention had ended his schemes for good.
Steve barely had time to reflect on his victory. Castle's voice crackled in his ear, calmly giving instructions on how to stage the scene.
"Alright, McGarrett. Time to clean up. You know what to do. Make it look like he fired at you first."
Steve moved swiftly. He approached Wo Fat's body, retrieved the handgun from the dead man's waistband, and fired several rounds toward the doorway to create the illusion of a firefight. Then, he placed the weapon firmly in Wo Fat's hand and ensured the scene would withstand scrutiny.
Satisfied with his work, Steve called Danny, reporting that he had engaged in a gunfight with Wo Fat, who was now deceased.
Danny was relieved to hear Steve was unharmed. "You alright, partner? Damn, you just took out the most wanted guy on the island. Nice work. We're almost there," Danny replied, his voice calm but tinged with admiration.
He relayed the update to the approaching officers and teammates, who all relaxed at the news. If anyone could take down a dangerous fugitive like Wo Fat without breaking a sweat, it was Steve McGarrett.
For now, justice had been served.
