Chapter 45 - One is pretty but the other lies

I slapped myself lightly.

A couple of days had gone by, and I was sitting in Dominic's and my bedroom, knitting, and I was still smiling about that stupid date, oh my god. Who knew cute things like that could be so much fun!

Just thinking about telling the waitress we were engaged has me over the moon, and I don't even know why.

I continued to knit as I stared aimlessly at the random show that was on the TV.

It kind of…makes me think about being proposed to for real.

I mean, I think I am just getting ahead of myself, because we have only been fake-engaged for so long, but it makes me giddy just thinking about it.

I felt my mind start to spiral as I looked away from the television. Maybe I am thinking too deeply about it. I mean, all of this was just kind of to prove a point to his parents and me in a way, so I guess one day it will come to an end… as all good things do.

I put my knitting down on the bed, and I slowly stood up.

I don't need to be thinking about the negatives right now. I really don't. It just…I…just need to enjoy the moment and live a little. For once in my whole life, I just need to fucking live a little, have fun, stop fucking overthinking, and just live.

Even if the proposal is temporary, I am going to enjoy it while it lasts because…that's all you can really do in life.

I slowly started to walk around the room so my legs didn't cramp up.

"Whatcha watching?" I felt myself jump. "Sorry, I didn't mean to scare you." I turned around, and there Dominic stood with a half smile on his face.

He looked a little tired, but he hid it very well.

"It's okay," I said, laughing, and Dominic walked past me to sit on the bed. "What are you doing?" he asked me, changing his question from earlier.

"I was knitting and watching some TV, and then I just wanted to walk around a little bit so my legs don't cramp up," I said, and he nodded at me, "cool, cool."

"What are you doing in here?" I asked with my head to the side.

He smiled at me and raised an eyebrow, "I can't be in here?"

"No, you can, I was just wondering, because you have been going from your office to come in here and then sleep and do it all over again," I said, trying to mask this faint feeling in my heart.

I don't know if it was disdain, anger, jealousy, sadness, or what, but…well, maybe it was all 4 and something else, but I didn't need to ruin Dom's day, because of my weird emotions I couldn't name.

"Well, I wanted to start packing for the convention and all of that and then give you kind of a rundown on what the week is going to look like."

"Okay, that's cool, I can help you pack."

"You don't have to."

"I already offered," I said, and he smiled, "okay, okay," he walked over to where the suitcases were, and he zipped open one of them and then flung it on the bed.

"Well, it is a week long."

"I thought it was a couple of days?"

"It got moved, so it is now a week, which is such a pain."

"For real," I said, and opened his drawers and started to grab his underwear and pajamas.

"We are leaving tomorrow, which came up way faster than I expected. We have to leave early, so I don't want to wake you, but yeah. For the rest, it is just going to be Mafia stuff that will bore me half to death, but our main goal is to try to stop Elena and her little Goons, which is much easier said than done," Dominic said to me, and I nodded as I folded his clothes into the suitcase. He walked over to the closet, grabbed a whole bunch of suits, and started to take them off the hangers.

"Please be careful."

"I will."

"Dominic," I watched as he stopped. "Yes?"

"I need you to actually be careful, like I know that you are this big bad mafia boss and all that, but I need you to be careful. I do not want you in a body bag by the end of this dumb convention, do you hear me?"

A smile grew on Dominic's face. "Do you care about me, handsome?" Dominic said, and he slowly walked towards me and embraced me in his arms.

"This is gay, you're gay," I said, trying to pry his hands off of me. Dominic kissed the side of my face, "I will be careful, I promise."

"You actually better," I said as Dominic continued to kiss up and down my face.

"I will be back before you know it. The convention itself has a no-violence policy, so I won't get hurt there."

"Don't get jumped in the hotel."

"I won't," Dominic said, and for some reason, this feeling of…impending doom started to make its way into my brain.

Despite Dominic telling me that everything would be okay, something was telling me it wouldn't be okay and that he was in danger.

I mean, he was with every terrible mafia boss in the country, or at least that's what I think. Why wouldn't he be in danger?

"Baby."

"Hm?"

"Look at me," Dominic said, and I looked at him. He grabbed my face, "Stop worrying. Everything will be okay, I will be okay, stop worrying, please."

I sighed, "I know."

"You don't need to be stressed out. I will be okay, no stupid mafia bosses are going to take me down," he said, and I felt myself laugh.

"Okay, okay," I still feel so worried, and I don't know why.

Dominic backed away from me, and he went back to helping me fold all of his stuff.

My eyes scanned the room as I folded.

For some reason, Lova came to my mind. God, now I was being jealous and weird. I don't need to be thinking about her. Everything is okay, Dominic will be fine.

God, now the impending doom is getting worse. Everything's going to go wrong. Every single thing. That's all my mind was filled with right now, and I don't know why.

"What's wrong? Are you still overthinking?" Dominic asked as he continued to fold.

"Nothing, I'm just being crazy."

"Do you wanna talk about it?"

"No, I don't need to stress you out more. I just need to get out of my own head," I said, trying to ignore all of my feelings.

I folded the final bit of his clothes and zipped up his suitcase. He lifted it and rolled it by the door.

He stood there standing by the door, staring at me, "You look really handsome."

I rolled my eyes at him, "Thank you, loser."

He squinted his eyes at me and then opened them back at normally again, "Did I do it?" he asked, walking over.

"Did you do what?"

He squinted his eyes again and this time tilted his head, "the cute eye thing you do."

I squinted my eyes at him, "This?"

"Yes, did I do that?"

"No, you just look like you have something in your eyes," I said, and we both started laughing.

He walked closer to me and grabbed my waist, "agh!" I felt myself yell.

He kissed the side of my face, "Get off of me," I said, trying to push him.

"I can't, you are so cute, and I'm gonna miss you," Dominic said as his hands wandered down to my ass, "watch your hands!"

His hands stayed in the same place as his kissing went farther and farther down my body, "since I'm gonna be gone for so long, maybeee," he smiled into my neck as the e in maybe trailed off into something evil.

"No," I said sternly. "Come on, you don't even know what I was going to say," He said, trying to plead his case.

"By the way you are kissing me right now, I know it is going to be fucking. And I love you, but you need to go to bed."

"Come on, I will be fast," Dominic said in a sing-songy voice.

"No, Dominic."

"Please, baby, I need something to get me through the week," Dominic whined.

"Grown ass man whining by the way, my lord. No, you are going to get in bed right now. You have to get up early, and I don't want you stressing out," I said, and Dominic said, "Okay."

"Good, now are you ready for bed?" I asked, and Dominic took off his shirt, "Yes."

I moved my knitting to the side table, and I got in bed, and Dominic did the same.

I grabbed my phone and turned my back to Dominic, who quickly got behind me, "Why are you sticky?"

"I don't know, just let me cuddle you," Dominic said, and he kissed my neck.

"Baby."

"Yes, Dominic?"

"Can you send me pictures every day to make sure I know you are safe?"

"Yeah, sure, whatever," I said, and I could tell he was smiling.

I sighed and continued to doom scroll through YouTube shorts.

"Dominic, I am not playing with you. If you come back to me dead, you will never find peace," I said sternly.

"I know, baby," he mumbled into the side of my neck. "I will be safe, don't worry," he said, yawning.

"Okay," I put my phone on the desk and turned as his body invaded all of my personal space. "I love you," he said in a small voice.

"I love you too, weirdo, I love you too."
