Chapter 173 - Chapter 169:The McCallisters II

Upstairs, the atmosphere in the grand dining hall of the McCallister estate was the absolute antithesis of the dark cellar below.

The air was thick with the rich, decadent aroma of roasted meats, expensive herbs, and aged wines. The long mahogany table was practically groaning under the weight of silver platters, crystal decanters, and fine porcelain. Around the table, the elite inner circle of the McCallister clan had gathered to celebrate the prospective windfall of an entirely new, untapped fairy population.

At the head of the table sat Edwin McCallister, though he sat somewhat rigidly, staring blankly at his steak while trying to remember something he couldn't quite place. Beside him was Wendell McCallister, a portly, arrogant man who was already deeply intoxicated, laughing loudly at his own jokes. Across from them sat Vincent McCallister, a sharp-eyed, calculating businessman who was already tracking profit margins on a leather notepad, and Beatrice McCallister, a cruel, sharp-featured woman draped in expensive pearls, whose primary joy in life was the absolute subjugation of lesser creatures.

Irene sat near the center with a triumphant, self-satisfied smirk on her face. She looked down the length of the table, her empty wine glass held aloft.

"Where is that useless creature?" Irene grumbled, her brow furrowing with sudden irritation. "Dust should have been up here minutes ago to pour the Cabernet. Edwin, did you leave your little pet locked in the vault again?"

Beatrice slammed her fork down against her porcelain plate with a loud, ringing screech. "Are you deaf?!" she shouted toward the empty service doorway, her eyes flashing with confusion as she tried to mentally trigger the compliance collar of her personal fairy servant. "Come up here this instant, you miserable little bug, before I have you thrown into the grinder!"

"Oh, they aren't deaf, my dear Beatrice," a smooth, cheerful voice echoed from the shadowed corner of the dining room.

The entire McCallister family froze at the unexpected voice.

From the velvet-draped recesses near the grand fireplace, Kai stepped into the bright light of the crystal chandelier. He was leaning casually against a high-backed mahogany chair, a dazzling smile stretching across his face. He looked entirely relaxed, save for the faint, celestial blue spark hovering just beneath the surface of his eyes.

"You see, they are currently having a rather profound, beautifully cinematic moment of liberation," Kai continued, "Lots of tears, lots of generational healing, a really lovely speech by the Queen. Frankly, it would have brought a tear to your eye, if you people actually possessed a soul. Which, let's be honest, you don't."

Vincent McCallister was the first to react, his hand instantly darting toward a hidden magical focus concealed beneath the rim of the table. "Who the hell are you? Irene, what is the meaning of this? Who let this stray heretic into the estate?"

"Ah, ah, ah," Kai tutted, wagging a single finger in the air.

With a casual flick of his wrist, a violent, localized kinetic pulse erupted across the room. The hidden magical focus in Vincent's hand instantly shattered into a million jagged pieces, tearing through his palm. Vincent let out a sharp, strangled scream, clutching his bloody hand against his silk suit.

"Let's skip the part where you try to use your cute little parlor tricks on me," Kai purred, his voice dropping into a terrifyingly calm, sadistic cadence as he slowly walked toward the head of the table. "It's insulting to my intellect, and honestly, it's just tacky."

"Edwin! Wendell! Kill him!" Beatrice shrieked, scrambling backward in her chair as her pristine pearls rattled against her throat.

Wendell, fueled by alcohol lunged out of his seat with his hands lighting up with a crude, aggressive combustion spell fueled by the essence gotten from the captured fairies. He hurled a ball of orange flame straight at Kai's face.

Kai didn't even flinch. He simply opened his mouth and took a deep, dramatic breath. The incoming ball of fire didn't explode; instead, it violently bent in mid-air, converting into a stream of raw, glowing ambient energy that poured directly into Kai's open throat. He swallowed the magic whole, letting out a soft, appreciative hum as his eyes flared a blinding, predatory blue.

"Oof. Wow, that actually worked." Kai looked surprised at the method he'd just used to absorb the magic before turning his attention back to the caster. "A bit heavy on the sulfur, Wendell," Kai mocked as a wicked, fanged grin breaking across his face and his vampire features finally manifested. Dark veins webbed beneath his eyes, and his elongated canines came on full display. "But thanks for the appetizer."

Before Wendell could even process the horror of what he was looking at, Kai blurred and Edwin was the first to lose his head.

To the human eye, he simply ceased to exist for a fraction of a second. In reality, he moved at absolute, terrifying supernatural speed, appearing directly behind Wendell who was staring down at Edwin's severed head. Kai's bloody hand shot out, his fingers wrapping around the back of Wendell's thick neck with a bone-crushing grip. With a sudden, brutal jerk, he slammed Wendell's head face-first into the mahogany table, shattering his nose and sending a spray of blood across the silver platters.

"Let's talk about supply and demand," Kai whispered, his voice sounding low, as a terrifying rumble as he leaned over the groaning man.

Without a shred of hesitation, Kai sank his fangs deep into the side of Wendell's neck. The sound of tearing flesh and desperate, muffled choking filled the silent dining hall. Kai drank deeply, his veins pulsing with absolute ecstasy as the fresh, warm human blood flooded his system, rapidly healing the last of the deep, conceptual fractures Phobos had left behind. Wendell's body thrashed weakly beneath his grip, his hands clawing at the mahogany before his eyes rolled back as Kai drained him entirely to the dregs.

Kai pulled back with a loud, wet smack, wiping a thick smear of crimson from his chin with the back of his hand. He looked over at Vincent, who was currently shivering on the floor, clutching his ruined hand in absolute terror.

"You know, Vincent," Kai mused thoughtfully, stepping over Wendell's limp corpse with an elegant, cat-like stride. "You really shouldn't just reach for a weapon against someone you don't know."

Kai reached down, grabbed Vincent by the lapels of his expensive suit, and lifted him completely off the floor with a single hand. Vincent opened his mouth to beg, but Kai simply smiled and tore into his throat with a vicious, animalistic hunger, he feasted with pure, sadistic joy as the slaughter rolled off his magical aura in waves. When Vincent's heart finally gave its last, pathetic flutter, Kai carelessly tossed the hollowed-out shell of the businessman directly onto the center of the dining table, crushing the porcelain plates and sending a wave of red wine and human blood cascading over the edge.

Beatrice was hyperventilating at this point, her dignity completely shattered as she crawled backward toward the heavy service doors. "Please... please, I have money... I have artifacts... I can give you whatever you want!"

"Oh, Beatrice," Kai chuckled, his voice dripping with dark amusement as he materialized directly in front of her, blocking her only escape. "You really don't get it, do you? I don't want your things. I am a heretic siphon. I am the ultimate consumer. And right now... I'm just incredibly, violently petty."

His hand blurred. With a sickening, wet SNAP, Kai twisted Beatrice's head completely around, the bone splintering loudly in the quiet room. Before her body could even hit the floorboards, Kai's grip tightened around her neck. With a brutal display of brutality, he cleanly tore her head entirely away from her shoulders.

He spun around, holding the severed, bloody head by its expensive pearls, and locked his eyes onto Irene, who was currently backed against the far wall, paralyzed with an absolute, breathless terror.

"Hey, Irene!" Kai said cheerfully, tossing the severed head through the air with perfect precision. "Hold onto your aunt for me, will you? Keep her warm!"

The bloody head slammed directly into Irene's chest. She let out a piercing, horrified shriek, instinctively catching the gruesome object before dropping it to the floor, her hands and pristine dress instantly stained in a thick, hot layer of her family's lifeblood.

"Why... why are you doing this?!" Irene begged, her voice cracking as tears of pure terror streamed down her pale face. She fell to her knees, surrounded by the mangled, bloody remains of her entire clan. "We didn't do anything to you!! Please... just tell me what you want!"

Kai slowly walked over to her, his heavy boots squelching softly in the literal puddles of blood that now coated the expensive hardwood floor. His vampire features were fully prominent, his eyes completely swallowed by a cold, celestial blue flame.

"What do I want?" Kai repeated softly, tilting his head as he stared down at her with a look of pure, unadulterated narcissism. "Irene, honey, you've been a very bad girl. You tried to play the grand manipulator and you kept a really, really messy house. I absolutely despise the mess and slavery of those who did not deserve it or had it coming."

He reached down, his fingers embedding themselves into her hair, forcing her head back to expose her trembling throat. "Consider this a hostile takeover. Your family business is officially liquidated."

Just as Kai's fangs bared, ready to deliver the final, lethal strike, the heavy service doors violently burst open.

A faction of the liberated Earth fairies, unable to contain their curiosity and driven by the intoxicating scent of human slaughter, spilled into the dining hall. The scene before them was an absolute, unmitigated bloodbath. The wealthy, powerful McCallister family had been systematically disassembled. Bodies were strewn across the broken furniture, blood was dripping from the crystal chandelier, and in the center of the ruin was Kai, looking like an agent of death, his chin caked in crimson, his magic radiating a pressure so immense that the ambient air itself was actively vibrating.

Kai paused, his fangs hovering inches from Irene's neck. He slowly turned his head, his burning blue eyes locking onto the intruding fairies with a look of pure, freezing annoyance.

"I thought I explicitly said," Kai whispered, "that you people shouldn't come up here."

The fairies stumbled backward as their newfound courage instantly evaporated into a cloud of primal dread. They were looking at a monster far more terrifying than any human magician they had ever encountered.

Suddenly, the Fairy Queen materialized at the front of her subjects. She took one look at the carnage, her eyes lingering on the severed head of Beatrice, before she raised her chin to meet Kai's terrifying gaze.

"They were just leaving," the Queen said firmly, her voice steady despite the overwhelming pressure. She grabbed the nearest fairy by the shoulder and began aggressively pulling them back toward the doorway. "We shall await your further instructions in the school."

Before Kai could even blink, the Queen and her entire faction vanished back into the shadows, disappearing from the dining hall faster than a heartbeat.

Kai watched the doorway for a second, the celestial blue flame in his eyes slowly receding back into his natural hazel as he let out a short, sarcastic chuckle.

"Well," Kai muttered, looking down at the shivering, weeping Irene still trapped beneath his hand. "At least someone around here knows how to follow directions. Now, where were we? Ah, right. Dessert."
