Chapter 23 - chapter 23 : The Countdown Begins

The first round had come to an end.

Not with victory.

Not with defeat.

But with a promise.

A promise written in fear, sealed with blood, and whispered through the walls of a mansion that had never been just a house. It was a mystery beyond solving... a nightmare from which no one who dared enter was ever truly awakened.

As taught in Islam, the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said:

"Allah has prescribed obligations, so do not neglect them; He has set limits, so do not transgress them; and He remained silent about certain matters as a mercy to you-not out of forgetfulness-so do not search into them."

Perhaps this mansion-and everything that had happened within its walls-was one of those mysteries that Allah chose to leave veiled from mankind.

Some games end when a champion is crowned.

This one...had become something far more dangerous.

Far more deadly.

The rules had changed.

The players had changed.

Even the mansion itself was no longer satisfied with watching from the shadows.

It had entered the game as a player of its own...A player with the power to decide who deserved to survive...and who deserved to be erased-not merely from the game, but from life itself.

It had awakened.

Somewhere within its endless corridors, Serena had vanished without leaving behind the slightest trace.

Deep beneath the mansion's ancient foundations, an unknown presence slowly drew its first breath once again.

No one knew what it truly was.

Perhaps it was a surprise the mansion had hidden for decades.

Or perhaps...it was Agatha's final welcoming gift.

And somewhere between life and death...Agatha was still waiting.

Waiting...for another round of hide-and-seek.

For years, everyone believed that surviving the game was the greatest challenge.

They were wrong.

The real challenge...was only the beginning.

Because inside this mansion...escaping death was never the hardest part.

Surviving what came after...was the true battle.

An oppressive silence settled over the vast mansion, a place overflowing with secrets.

It was no ordinary silence.

It felt as though it were listening to every breath escaping their lungs.

Mido stood in the center of the room, his eyes slowly scanning the spot where Serena had disappeared only moments ago, searching for the smallest clue that might lead him to her.

There were no footprints.

No open window.

Not even a door that appeared to have moved.

It was as if...she had simply vanished.

Behind him, the others stood frozen in shock.

Sarah wrapped her arms around herself, struggling to stop her trembling, while Julia stared at the empty bed in complete disbelief.

Christina stepped forward, her voice barely above a whisper.

"Where did she go...? Will someone please answer me?"

No one did.

Even James, who never missed an opportunity to crack a joke in the darkest moments, remained silent for the first time. Fear had stolen his words and dragged him back to the harsh reality surrounding them.

Georgia, meanwhile, kept her eyes fixed on the open doorway.

Then she spoke quietly.

"It's begun."

After a brief pause, she added,

"Everyone... get ready."

Mido turned toward her, his brow furrowed.

"What do you mean? Don't tell me you're talking about..."

She cut him off with a deep breath.

"The first round tested the players."

Her eyes shifted toward the dark corridor.

"But the second round..."

She paused.

"...tests their souls... and decides who deserves to live."

At that very moment...A metallic bell echoed throughout the mansion.

Once.

Twice.

Three times.

Then a cold, emotionless voice resonated through the walls.

"Welcome to Round Two."

A brief silence followed before the voice continued.

"Let's play."

Silence returned.

Then the voice spoke again.

"The rules have changed."

"From this moment on..."

"No one will be hunted..."

"...until someone chooses to search."

The group exchanged confused glances.

Mido frowned.

"Search... for what?"

Before the voice could answer

The entire mansion shook violently.

A long, haunting scream rose from somewhere deep below.

It wasn't Serena.

It wasn't even human.

It belonged to something...older than all of them.

And darker than words could ever describe.

The mansion continued to tremble for several long seconds-seconds that felt like an eternity.

Then...Everything fell silent.

A deadly, suffocating silence.

It was not the kind of silence that brought comfort, but the kind that comes just before the world collapses... before chaos is unleashed.

No one dared to speak.

Even their breathing grew heavy, as though the air itself refused to enter their lungs.

Mido slowly raised his head and closed his eyes for a brief moment, trying to sense Serena's presence... hoping to find even the faintest trace of her.

But...There was nothing.

Then suddenly...The sound of slow footsteps echoed throughout the mansion.

One step...

Then another...

Then a third.

None of them were moving.

And yet...The footsteps were drawing closer.

Every pair of eyes turned toward the end of the long corridor.

Darkness...It swallowed everything before it.

Yet something was walking within it.

No one could make out its features.

No one could even tell whether it was human...Or something else entirely.

The footsteps stopped.

Once again, silence consumed the mansion.

Then a faint voice emerged from the heart of the darkness.

It wasn't loud...Yet every single one of them heard it with terrifying clarity.

"The countdown has begun..."

Then...The voice disappeared.

At that very instant, the mansion shook one final time.

Words suddenly appeared on the wall opposite them, as though they had been written in fresh blood:

Round Two

Time Remaining: 6 Days

Silence returned.

Mido never took his eyes off those words.

Because at last...He realized the truth.

The first round had been nothing more than a prologue.

And the real nightmare...Had only just begun.
