Blue flames gleamed across Synchra's closed helmet as Quinlan turned toward Ito and the dwarf jailer waiting beside the cell door. The dwarf's gaze flicked from the black armor to the empty chamber.
"Where's the Fomorian?"
"I've taken care of him. Come with me."
With the captives outside and Alexios's company covering their departure, Quinlan beckoned the jailer along and reached for the souls still posted throughout the prison. They could now withdraw through the rear passages to Eve's position.
The jailer hurried ahead to show him the route, with Ito at Quinlan's side and the last guards joining them as they left their posts.
Beyond the door Eve opened beneath the stairs, chests stood packed against the walls, smaller cases wedged between them. Soul soldiers waited beside the stacks, making space for their master.
Daylight shone through the passage beyond the room, leading to the rear slip. A pair of souls watched that approach.
