Alex, all on her lonesome, slowly pushed open the door of the Duke's lab, her expression cold despite her inner hesitancy. Truthfully, she knew she was playing with hot, swirling fire. It didn't take a genius to figure out the Duke wasn't a very nice guy, not to mention he was also Ixion's father—one notoriously bad at his job. But Alex was willing to take the risk, to play with fire based on the simple fact that she had years of experience.
If the Duke was as ambitious as her own dead father—may his soul burn in peace—then he wouldn't harm a hair on her head. Not until she fulfilled the desired purpose. Fortunately, in this place, Alex did not have anything she cared about, but she still needed to know, to understand how far the Duke was willing to let her go.
