Chapter 25 - The night part 1

"I could have asked more, no... I should have." Kaven laid on the bed and the memory spiralled back to the nurse room.

The day when Gyu's collapsed body was in garam's arm.

His eyes aren't believing the sight.

Why is he in his arms? Why not someone else...someone like him?

Doesn't he hate him? Isn't he the person who wanted to least see him?

But hate doesn't stop people from humane things.

Yes this is it! Gyu was unconscious and in the rain.. soaked. Obviously Garam couldn't be callous and ignored him or maybe he was the only one to see.

Another thought ran in him. The moment Gyu was hit by the ball Garam had thrown, just the next minute Garam was out too. He saw the light brow change in his expression. but this didn't cross, he sure hated him to go far as to hit Gyu with that ball but why him being struck has an opposite reaction to him? Why did he himself let get hit?

It almost felt deliberate, like he wanted to get out... like some kind of sin he did and wanted repentance.

"Ugh! What even I'm thinking."

But none answer he gets, Garam's behaviour was different, No... it was always stunted around Gyu.

Something restrained something unfinished.

And then came the night when he got the sudden call, an unknown number and the person who talked was Gyu's mother.

That night he was sure everything was fine because in front of him Gyu had already gone to sleep so he came back.

but the sudden late night call made him anxious he couldn't sleep any more it was 12 a.m and he rushed to his apartment.

He knew the passcode, Gyu had already told him, he couldn't shake his worry.

But what he came to was different.

There was a figure who was sitting beside him on a chair. hands on a cool towel squeezing the water out. A woman and then he noticed something dark at the corner of the window in the shadows, a silhouette of a man.

With a moonlight the person came to be Garam, looking sharply at him.

"What are you doing here?" he asked

Kaven frowned. 'What is he doing in the hallways?

"I can ask the same. Why do you?"

"You don't need to know," he spat.

"What's your problem, can't say the simple words, always twisted." Kaven mocked.

Kaven moves the knob to enter, but Garam holds his hand, glaring at him.

"But I ran through all the way. At least let me see him?" Kaven unbeknowst reasoned himself.

"And who are you to him to stop me here? Huh?"

Garam ignores his question...

"Once she leaves do it then, but not now.."

"Like I care," he entered directly, Garam didn't step in. As if the door was his last stop.

"How is he?" He asked.

"Not feverish anymore, now he's fine. And You?" Hana replied.

"Kaven."

Her phone buzzed, but she constantly cut it, not receiving it.

"Why don't you answer it?"

"Then i would have to go back.

And i can't. I need to be here...with him." She said.

"Then at least tell them the reason for no."

She remained silent then sighed heavily.

"I'm the director. I can't unsee something.

And this project needs to be done just the next day."

"Then... I'll stay and..." He looked at the hallways but it was empty.

She only smiled flatly.

It wasn't late when she left and he was left all alone with Gyu.

His relation with Gyu is still in its young age and has still received a cold shoulder but though his friendship didn't run deep but it stirred a curiosity in him to know better.

The way he felt towards Gyu has a similarity to responsibility.

He felt if something goes wrong with him it would be his fault.

The whole night he remained and stayed up just in case Gyu felt a bit bitter with his health, but sleep consumed him.

And he was awakened to a stuttering Gyu.

He tried to help him open his eyes but none happened.

He even sprinkles water on his face but Gyu remained in his subconscious state. through all this one thing was constant— that eerie silhouette in the hallway.

He puts Gyu's head on his shoulder to calm him down. Rubbed his palm, but no change.

He tsked. With his helplessness.

"Are you going to gawk at me only, if you can't be of some help then get lost from here." He yelled at the silhouette.

"What are you... a freaking watchman!"

Then in just the next second he was pushed aside and Garam held Gyu's hand and laid him on the bed.

And set next to him.

Kaven was about to shout but the Garam death stared him shutting his every word

And it only took one minute for Gyu to calm down and then he stormed out of the room as if he wasn't in the room just a few seconds ago.

And then that dark silhouette of him again stands there like it didn't change its position before.

He huffed in frustration. And laid back on the sofa, it was almost school time but he can't let go of Gyu in this state and moreover he needs to wash himself too.

If only someone..

"Hey, are you going to stand there for the whole day too?" He asked. He hesitated to ask, receiving his stern glare was something he became accustomed too.

But his frustration is beyond his hesitation.

"You are confusing, man. i don't know if i should trust you or not."

"One time you beat me and another time you knocked him out too."

"I saw you. I don't know if you notice yourself or not."

"But I did, your clenched jaw, forcibly sealed lips and that tight fist. It's just us." He looked at his back.

"I know you can hear me."

"I'm asking, if you are here because of him, then stay here and watch him for me."

But Garam left the place.

"Stupid jerk." Kaven cursed himself.

'I need to attend school today,' he looked at Gyu's sleeping figure.

'It wouldn't harm me to miss one day.

But i stink. And it's not good to open up someone else's drawer.'

"It won't take much time." He muttered coming up with his solution.

"Gyu" he said to him. "Please don't be up before I come back."

He ran to his apartment, it was just in the next building.

It took only 20 minutes when he came back but what he sees, makes his blood ran cold.

Garam hand clasped around Gyu's neck while Gyu's tight holding it saying, "No please don't".

A ting in his phone withdrew kaven from his thoughts.

Kaven tossed his phone aside, giving a short reply to Hana's messages.

"Yes he's alright. We went to school together but he skipped his lun...

No i shouldn't add this, he erased it and wrote again.

"We left school together. He's back to his good shape.

But even then I'll rest at his place. So don't worry."

Tsked.He didn't like lying.

Yes he stayed there for the night but he wasn't the one. Alone there.

"How did I come to know them being brothers?"

Truthfully if it wasn't the case i would have thought of something else.
