By the time the town's only police car slowly arrived, all that was left was a jumbled mass of footprints at the alley entrance by the river and a shocking pool of blood, along with an old man who was hacked and seriously injured, barely hanging on to life.
The leading officer watched as Jesus and his group nonchalantly stood by smoking, glanced toward the alley, frowned, and asked a few cursory questions. Jesus, a cigarette dangling from his lips, said, "Officer, we suspect they're drug traffickers. We wanted to arrest them for questioning. They resisted and attacked this elderly man. We acted in self-defense and incidentally helped rid the community of dangerous elements."
The officer caught a glance from Jesus, then noticed a small roll of cash being slipped into his hand. He silently accepted it and tucked it into his pocket.
