General Morales stood on the bridge, holding binoculars, watching the Turkish warships getting closer. Four ships, two destroyers, two frigates. They are no longer fleeing, forming a defensive formation, bows facing south, guns aimed in the direction of the Mexican Fleet.
"General, they're going all out."
Morales nodded. "Let them fight."
"All units, target - Turkish Fleet. Free fire."
The first missile rose from the launch silo of the "Independence," trailing flames, flying towards the Turkish Fleet. Then came the second, third, fourth - the five warships of the Mexican Fleet opened fire simultaneously, missiles raining down on the Turkish ships.
The Turks' air defense systems activated. Chaff was launched, exploding into aluminum clouds in the sky. Anti-air missiles ascended, tracing arcs in the sky, colliding with the Mexican missiles, exploding in bursts of orange-red sparks.
The first wave, mostly intercepted.
