The Minister of Defense Akar stood in front of him.
"Mr. President, the Iranians are in. They are fighting the Israelis north of the Golan Heights. The Syrians are in the south, the Israelis in the middle, and the Iranians in the north. It's a three-way conflict. We—we are in the north, inside Syria, in Aleppo."
Akar took a drag of his cigarette. "Tell the Syrian National Army to push south. Push to Hamah, push to Homs, push to Damascus. The Iranians are to the east, we are to the west. Whoever gets to Damascus first will be the master of Syria."
Akar froze.
"Mr. President, that means—"
"What does that mean? It means telling the Iranians that Turkey is not to be trifled with."
He crushed the cigarette.
"Notify the Air Force to take off. Target—the Iranian supply line. Bomb their tankers, bomb their ammunition depots, bomb their headquarters. After it's done, tell Tehran: Syria is not Iran's."
