Chapter 96 - Pent Up

Alexander's eyes fell to the spot Brand had struck and then went to him. "Then go hunting alone." He waved a parchment lazily. "I am thoroughly engaged. Now, even if I were not, I would much prefer to seek the company of my wife, who, I assure you, is a far more agreeable companion than you at present. And I still am infuriated at your rebellion."

"Alexander—"

"Or go visit your relative, Lady Denney, if you are seeking some company. I hear she has not left her bedchamber in days."

Brand slammed both hands on the table, surprising both himself and Alexander, "I do not need a visit to Bellingham House," That was not the company he sought. "And though deserved, I do not need the anger of my king." Breathing hard, he calmed a fair amount. "I… I need the assistance of my brother."

Instantly, Alexander's expression changed. The amusement vanished and concern replaced it.

Setting the parchment aside slowly, he asked. "What is it?"
