I found Kaden at the training grounds with sweat on his shirt and dust on his boots, and he was halfway through yelling at two warriors while they kept up with drills like their lives depended on it.
“Again,” Kaden barked, and he pointed at the line with one hard hand. “If your foot drags one more time, you are gonna eat dirt in front of everybody.”
One warrior cursed under his breath and reset his stance, and the other one shook his shoulders loose while he glared at the target mark.
I walked straight onto the field before anybody could stop me, and Kaden’s eyes met mine first, then Lily in my arms.
I wanted her to be close enough to feel what was happening and for him to realize how his anger was affecting the mood of our child.
He lifted one hand to pause the drill, and the warriors slowed down at once.
“Hold it there,” he told them, and he kept his eyes on me. “What’s up? She shouldn’t be out in this dusty area, take her back inside.”
