Chapter 229 - 229 - Entity warning

*

The sky is torn asunder, painted over into a myriad of chaotic grey tones, with buzzing and pixelation. White tentacles stretch into the solar system and past into other star systems, encroaching the width of this universe. Always have back up plans, when Ledaine's timer ends, his tentacles would have caught up with universal expansion and tore the fabric of reality apart. Meaning, there was no longer viability in stalling until Ledaine's power ran out. One side has to die.

Two tree branch like structures stretch from Yggdrasil's back, forming massive wings that span skyscrapers. She flew at top speed, continually strengthening herself with more magic absorbed by the world tree, her true body. Although represented by a battle, this fight came down to a simple metric. Ledaine was suppressing the world, making it bend to his power which makes himself look stronger. Yggdrasil was drawing power from the world's magic. In other words, is this world enough to repel this Invader?

Her trusty great sword materialised, without any delays their weapons collided. There's no longer any excuses, the only way for this to end is for one of them to die. Yggdrasil pushed hard at her weapon, pushing their weapons to the side as they flew through the skies. Pivoting, she spun mid air and dragged her weapon with her, slicing a wheel into the enemy. A ravine forms in the earth, a large portion of land in the centre seemed unharmed as Ledaine blocks the hit with his own weapon.

Ledaine flies higher, chased by Yggdrasil. Black and white comet engage in mortal battle, clash after clash. She swung her leg and her heel gives the scythe a heavy slam, then she spun and drew her great sword through the air horizontally. Ledaine twisted his waist, rotated his scythe around his body and deflected the great sword. Their weapons split off, and they ready for the next clash.

The black comet leaps off the conflict and traces an arc in the sky, plunging back in. The white comet traces a similar arc, racking up momentum for the next scythe swing. An X shape hole of destruction plunges into sky, the sky ignites before exploding. Fragments of broken spacial fabric swirl into a sandstorm, tracing the two like an asteroid belt. Naturally, this repeats.

Yggdrasil deflects an overhead slam, the shock wave disintegrates a mountain in the distance, blowing the dusty debris into the clouds. Ledaine parries a straight thrust, the clouds part behind Yggdrasil, blowing away the top portions of high rise buildings behind her for a long distance. The curvature of the earth saves the other tall buildings.

Ledaine spins his scythe, its swirling force bears on its surroundings. Yggdrasil pours more magic into her great sword, it burns the air, vaporised moisture, turned solids into ash. One final clash, both sides begin to pour all of their power into their weapons. At this distance, neither could dodge the other, nor would they allow it. The world flashes a blinding white for a moment, their movements surpassed any speed that had been witnessed in this era. Would Eterna at full power survive this? Who knew.

It was nearly impossible to tell, if their weapons had clashed first, or if that light that came from their collision arose first. The light didn't stop, like a flickering spark it flashed a few more times before drowning the world in white.

"{Cocytus}! STARBOUND KARMIC FINALITY!!!" (Ledaine)

"{FEED}!! HYPERVIOLENT QUASAR USURPATION!!" (Yggdrasil)

The light stopped waning, the world drowns in energy as magic radiation melts the universe into a hotpot. Their weapons remained firmly in place, their eyes peeked at each other in this light polluted environment. Their gazes locked into the other for a few seconds, then...

Ledaine's scythe began to bore cracks. After the first laceration, cracks instantly filled the entire scythe like the boundaries between honeycombs, before grinding the entire weapon to dust. Ledaine glares at his enemy before accepting his fate. His body gradually smoked before turning into ash at a crawling rate. The Invader would never exist again.

The battle wasn't fair to begin with. No one could stop Ledaine other than Yggdrasil, so she was pivotal to driving off the apocalypse. At the same time, {Feed} was able to absorb her opponent's magic and decrease his output. The rate of absorption never stopped growing, at the end it finally tipped the balance and firmly pushed Ledaine's power below Yggdrasil's. The gap was bridged and overcame. And it won't stop.

The light vanishes all at once, in its place transient motes floated gently. Like snow that fell upwards. Time returns to the world, and while still visible the cracks in the fabric of reality began to mend. Throughout the planet, the dread exuded by these black cracks on seemingly nothing began to shrunk and vanish. Arin's soul is gone. The apocalypse was not without loss.

For a sliver of a moment, there was peace. There was relief. Ledaine was defeated and all would go back to normal tomorrow... Right?

She looked back at Sariel, who was as dishevelled as she was. Floating back to the ground, the moment Yggdrasil's feet landed she collided with Sariel. It was a fierce hug! Sariel had a running start, she didn't let the tears streaming down her face impede her.

"Ughh!! I'm... Sweaty.." (Yggdrasil)

"... Haa?! Me too! And since when did you care?" (Sariel)

They broke into faint chuckles, their legs gave out and they nearly tossed each other into the ground. Gradually, they lowered into sitting position, exhausted from everything they went through. Ledaine left countless wounds on Yggdrasil, but they were a shallow and quickly healed. The sentinels began to walk away, they had other jobs to do. Traces might be stronger from now on, now that Eterna was no longer influencing the world.

Yggdrasil felt for the withered divine core in her dress, taking it out she stared at it for a little while, as if looking at it any longer might repair it. She might have to find a way to get it fixed, then find someone to protect it. It might be safest inside the world tree. After all it would be like the inside of her body, even if someone like {Nerve} came along to steal it, she would at least feel when it went missing. Just then...

*Beep beep, Traces of the divine detected. Hostile entity warning. Good luck*

Now she understood why it gave her well wishes. Fights between the divine were a coin flip, when neither side has a conceivable 'limit' in power, there was no predicting the outcome.
