Chapter 252 - 252 - Unattainable

*

When she woke up, she felt like she had a long dream. A long dream called life. Certainly her life could never be described as long, Yggdrasil has only existed for less than a year. She assimilates with her creator's memories, finds herself more comfortable with the idea that 'she's 17' like her creator was. Though truthfully, the question of age has never bothered her.

Human laws and human concepts don't apply to her, they feel like something too distant to matter. After all, she isn't human. She sat up in her bed, her internal clock flawlessly woke her up just in time to start making breakfast. The Primordial shadow, Lastia was the polar opposite. Endulging in the Internet day and night, she had become a heavy sleeper that went to bed late. Fortunately they didn't have to commute to school any longer, classroom sessions were now taken remotely thanks to that incident yesterday.

The involved families were allowed to mourn for a period, so not everyone is back to everyday life. As for the suspects... There was no trace of magic from start to finish, that's why the magical girls couldn't react in time. Before the loud resounding explosion had spread far, it had already been detonated. Unless the culprit was buried on the first floor with the other victims, it should be a remote activation of explosive charges.

In conclusion, the explosives were planted ahead of time. There's also the possibility of advance magic jamming, and it's not very certain that the bombs were triggered far away. It was definitely done via a remote due to the sheer quantity of ordinances that needed synchrony, but how far could this remote be before it lost signal? How were the explosives planted and hidden up till now, without anyone's notice?

Completing the plating of breakfast, Lastia strut out of her room, enticed by the wafting aroma. Did she sleep earlier than usual? She got up on her own this time. Slovenly, she reached her right hand up her shirt to reach an itch, pulling the front up as she stifled a yawn. The ridge of her nose creased and her eyes closed as her lips wordlessly part for a silent yawn. Obediently, she pulled out a chair and sat down. Careful to check the time on a clock displayed on the wall.

Watching Lastia scoop up the last of her breakfast as Yggdrasil finished her meal, she casually reminisced about her times in her actual home. How long had she lived there? 2 to 3 months? It wasn't long, but living with company like this was not so bad compared to back then...

"Ah right, you can just leave the plate here. I'll go wash up." (Arin)

"... Alright. Then I'll prepare for my lesson." (Lastia)

Done with her chores, Yggdrasil also retreats to her room to set up her online classroom. She mulls over the few events she's been through as the teacher's microphone picks up the starting sparks of her voice. Terrorist? Magical girls... This world is newly created, as the omniscient creator, how has the development of these events slipped out of her notice?

She has accordingly weakened herself into a C grade magical girl, if her magic is too large the other beings of this world would take notice, and the world might break for fault of being too fragile. Has this affected her senses? The world is of her creation, any and every little process is carried out by her own computational power. Every bit of detail, including the secrets of life, was logged into her database.

Rather, these vicissitudes inherently prove that the world is now independent from her? Being unpredictable is evidence that creativity and sentience exist. Their own thoughts, the irrationality hidden under the shell of their ideals have led to actions only humans would take... The world is alive and well. She is not human.

"... In...! " (Ms Lily)

She will never be human.

"Ar... In...! Arin!!" (Ms Lily)

"Ah! Here!" (Arin)

She can never be human. She isn't here to replace anyone, even if that is what the world has come to. At the edge of the universe, where everything has accelerated beyond the speed of light, time has lost all meaning. If she were to abandon this world now, would she arrive at the present, a mere moment after Vinia summoned the Primordial Shadow? She could leave now, and forget everything that happened here, and everyone... The life she created, it will live on for one more month.

She can cower, she is allowed to. To run from the problems here and face the ones plaguing the real world, she's sure nobody would reprimand her for it. They didn't have the right when they couldn't do anything themselves, depending on her to slay every Heavenly King. She stares at Lastia through the screen, the ui of the online classroom displayed everyone's camera footage. Perhaps Lastia sensed her gaze, sheepishly but with a wide grin, she waves back at the camera. As if responding to her questioning gaze.

That's right. A shadow of her creator, shadow of the creator, an unfathomable being sits under the same roof. If pushed to answer, she could confidently say she didn't hate her. Their fight was ordained by fate, their interests were meant to collide from the start. There's no amount of excuses, someone had to die at the end of this long journey, bequeathing meaning onto the victor's pursuits. Without each other, the other would lose meaning. Their existences intertwined into infinity, this was beyond even destiny and the idea of prophecy.

This was a proxy rivalry between divine concepts, Yggdrasil('s envoy) and Primordial(shadow), concepts that far surpass the other abstracts comprehended by human kind like time and space. Concepts that surpass and dictate the heavens, that lineages with divinity pass on tales about to their descendants. Abuse time travel and risk incurring the wrath of chronos and other dangerous transcendental beings scouring the worlds. However towards divine concepts like The Primordial and Yggdrasil, there isn't even a way to catch their attention much less offend them.

An example would be {Destruction} and the 8 gods of annhiliation that invaded from other worlds, an encounter witnessed by the origin era. Ultimately they were fended off by The Primordial's past, the deity that would later on become The Primordial.

There is no doubt, Yggdrasil was created by Lastia. Born and raised in the normal world by sheer chance, yet also an envoy of the World Tree. Was she born because she was the envoy? Or was she the envoy because she was born? This was her delicate connection to fate itself. Muting her microphone, she gently whispered to herself, finding her resolve.

"Just you wait..." (Arin)
