After months of intense training in the wilderness, Arthur and his friends finally reached where the Wutai base in the eastern continent should be.
The landscape was a stark change from the desolate plains they had crossed.
Lush, green forests gave way to towering, snow-capped mountains, a beautiful and imposing natural wall that protected the base of Wutai.
Their journey had been long, but with each passing day, Arthur's strength had grown, a quiet power simmering beneath his skin.
His friends, too, had become a well-oiled machine, their individual strengths complementing each other perfectly.
The Wutai base, a new hub of activity, was nestled deep within the mountains. It wasn't a grand, fortified fortress like Midgar.
Instead, it was a collection of well-hidden, interconnected caves and wooden structures, built in harmony with the environment.
As they approached, they saw sentries, not in gleaming Shinra armor, but in practical, earth-toned clothing, standing watch with sharpened spears.
The air was filled with a sense of purpose and resilience, a stark contrast to the oppressed atmosphere of Midgar.
Their arrival was met with a mixture of suspicion and relief. Word of Arthur's group and their part in the Midgar incident had reached Wutai.
As they were led into the main settlement, a man with a stern face and a powerful aura stepped forward.
He was Godo Kisaragi, the leader of Wutai and Yuffie's father. His eyes, though wary, held a flicker of gratitude as he took in the group.
"So, you are the ones who caused Shinra so much trouble,"
Godo said, his voice deep and resonant.
"We are indebted to you. The diversion you created bought us the time we needed to establish this base."
Arthur stepped forward.
"We did what we had to. But the fight isn't over. Shinra is still out there. We need to prepare."
Godo's gaze lingered on Arthur, a flicker of surprise and intense scrutiny in his eyes.
He extended a hand, placing it firmly on Arthur's shoulder. A jolt went through Arthur as Godo's senses, honed by years of combat and leadership, registered the sheer power emanating from him.
It wasn't just physical strength; it was an almost palpable aura of honed skill and latent energy.
"Indeed,"
Godo murmured, a hint of awe in his voice.
"The fight is far from over. But with strength like yours... it gives us hope."
He slowly withdrew his hand, his expression a mixture of profound respect and something akin to disbelief.
"I have met many warriors in my time, faced down Shinra's best, but I have never encountered power quite like yours, young man. You are... remarkable."
His stern face softened as his eyes found Yuffie, who had been standing a little anxiously to the side.
A wide, relieved smile broke through his usual serious demeanor.
"Yuffie!"
He exclaimed, moving towards her with a warmth he hadn't shown to anyone else. He pulled her into a tight embrace, patting her back.
"You're safe. Thank the spirits, you little troublemaker!"
Yuffie, usually so restless and independent, didn't try to squirm away for once. She leaned into her father's embrace.
"Dad"
Escaped her lips. It was a word laden with a mixture of relief, guilt, and a hint of the vulnerability she rarely showed.
She hadn't told her parents about her intention to go to Midgar. They only discovered her absence two or three days later, when her usual mischievous antics were conspicuously missing.
Initially, they didn't suspect anything truly amiss. Yuffie was infamous for her disappearances, for always going around making trouble, exploring, or simply being wherever the next thrill lay.
Her adventurous spirit, while sometimes a source of frustration, was also a defining characteristic they had grown accustomed to.
They likely assumed she was off on another one of her self-appointed "missions" or causing some minor, localized chaos.
But this time, it was different. This time, her escapade was far from the normal troubles she usually caused. This wasn't about stealing a few Gil from a local vendor, pranking a village elder, or getting into a minor skirmish with rival teenagers.
This was Midgar—a place synonymous with Shinra, with power, and with danger beyond anything the peaceful lands of Wutai typically offered.
This was a journey that held true peril, a venture that could irrevocably alter her life, and theirs. The weight of her secret, and the potential consequences, hung heavy in the air, a silent burden she now shared with the comforting warmth of her father's hug.
Godo pulled back slightly, holding her at arm's length, his hands resting on her shoulders as he looked her over.
"Your mother has been worried sick about you, little ninja. She paced the floors every night since we heard about the Midgar incident. She's been asking about you constantly."
He sighed, a fond exasperation in his tone.
"I think you should go and see her as soon as you can. She's waiting in the eastern living quarters. Go on, don't keep her waiting any longer."
Godo nodded, turning his attention back to Arthur and the others.
"You've all come a long way. You must be exhausted."
He gestured towards a large, well-lit opening in the rock face nearby.
"Our base may not be as grand as Shinra's fortresses, but it offers safety and warmth. There are quarters prepared for you inside. Rest. You've earned it."
He gave Arthur another appraising look, a silent message of respect passing between them.
"We'll speak more in the morning. There's much to discuss regarding Shinra and our next steps. For now, get some much-needed rest."
With a final, welcoming nod, Godo turned to watch Yuffie disappear into the settlement.
The crisp morning air of the Wutai mountains was invigorating, carrying the scent of trees and damp earth.
Arthur awoke feeling refreshed, the deep rest having worked wonders on his weary body.
He found the others already stirring, some stretching out their limbs, others quietly preparing for the day.
Soon after, a Wutai guard arrived, respectfully escorting Arthur, Barret, Tifa, Cloudia, to a larger, central cave that served as a strategic meeting room.
Godo was already there, poring over a large map spread across a low wooden table, his stern expression indicating the seriousness of the discussion to come.
"Good morning,"
Godo greeted them, his gaze sweeping over each of them before settling on Arthur.
"I trust you all rested well?"
Arthur nodded.
"We did, thank you."
Godo gestured for them to gather around the map.
"Today, we will discuss our next move against Shinra. While the Midgar incident provided us a crucial window, it was just that—a window. Shinra's grip on the world is still too strong, their resources seemingly limitless."
He pointed to various lines crisscrossing the map.
"Their trade routes are their lifeblood. They transport Mako, materials, and personnel across the continent. If we can disrupt these, we can cripple their operations."
Barret leaned closer, his brow furrowed.
"That's a big gamble, Godo. Shinra's convoys are heavily guarded. We'd be walking into a hornet's nest."
"Indeed,"
Godo acknowledged, his eyes meeting Barret's.
"It is a risky endeavor. Very risky, in fact. Conventional forces would be annihilated. But…"
His gaze shifted subtly to Arthur, a glimmer of the awe from the previous night returning.
"We are no longer operating with conventional forces."
Arthur felt the weight of Godo's implied trust, and the silent expectations of his friends. He knew what Godo was thinking.
His burgeoning power, honed in the wilderness, was a wild card, something Shinra wouldn't anticipate.
"With his strength,"
Godo continued, his voice gaining a confident edge. He heard about Arthur's powers from his spy.
"We have an advantage, a powerful deterrent. Shinra's typical security measures may not be enough. This allows us to strike at targets that were previously unreachable. We could seize their supplies, gather intelligence, and sow chaos in their logistics."
He looked at Barret, then Tifa and Cloudia.
"It will be dangerous. There will be heavy resistance. But the potential rewards outweigh the risks. This could be the blow that truly shakes Shinra to its core, forcing them to divert resources and attention away from their main objectives."
A thoughtful silence fell over the group as they considered the audacity of the plan.
Seizing Shinra's trade routes wasn't just about disrupting them; it was about taking what was theirs, a direct challenge to their dominion. It was a move born of desperation, but also of a newfound, formidable strength.
Godo looked at Arthur, then at the rest of the group.
"What are your thoughts? Are you prepared to take on such a challenge?"
