Chapter 51 - Chapter Fifty: A Different Kind of Close (낯선 옆자리)

Lee Ji-seo POV

"My back hurts," I whined in pain. Ha-ri groaned from her bed, "Everywhere hurts. I feel like I got hit by a truck."

"Should we skip the outing and rest?" I asked, sitting up in my bed. "We can't," Ha-ri said. I let out a heavy sigh.

"Yeah, you're right," I said before getting up from my bed. Just then, our room door opened, and Arin poked her head.

"Mr. Song is looking for you guys. Don't slow us down with your laziness," she said harshly before slamming the door.

"What's her issue?" I asked, staring at the door with concern. "She is always like this," Ha-ri said, getting up from her bed.

"Yeah, but she's more bitchy today. Remember how she acted as soon as she woke up this morning?" I said, referring to the way she woke up this morning, and shot me a glare without me really doing anything.

"Yeah, she's so crazy," Ha-ri said, remembering the cold glare I received from Arin this morning, and shuddered.

"Let's go before she comes here again," I said before walking to the door and stepping out, with Ha-ri following closely behind.

"There you guys are. What took you so long?" Ms. Choi asked in concern. "We are a bit sore after yesterday. We're sorry for delaying you all," I apologised quickly.

"That's fine. Come on, let's be on our way," Mr. Song said, before entering the bus. Taemin walked to us and flung his arm on my shoulder.

I winced in pain, and he lifted his arm, "Oh, sorry. Are you okay?" He asked in panic. I glared at him, "Yeah, in fact, I feel like I can lift a mountain with how strong I am."

Dae walked to us and looked at Ha-ri with concern, "Are you okay? Do you need me to carry you to the bus?" He asked softly.

"Aww, would you look at that, Ji-seo, I'm so loved," she exclaimed with joy, then gave Dae a peck on the lips. "No, don't worry yourself with that. I love you so much," she squealed.

Jaehyun rolled his eyes, "You guys should slow down on the PDA. I feel like my eyes are going to get diabetes."

"You don't get diabetes in your eyes, you idiot," Taemin said to his friend. "Yes, you can!" Jaehyun quickly defended.

"Should we research it?" Taemin shot back. "Yeah, and let's make a bet on it," Jaehyun said smugly.

"Here we go," Dae said in exhaustion. I guess this is a recurring experience for him. Taemin brought out his hand for Jaehyun to shake to solidify their bet before turning to me.

"What?" I asked with a raised brow. "Can you check it out for us?" He said. "No way. I'm not indulging myself in you guys' stupidity," I said, turning him down immediately.

"Please, it's not going to take long. Just a quick search," he begged. I rolled my eyes and brought out my phone, "Fine. I'll support you guys' foolishness just this time."

I quickly Googled if it's possible to get diabetes in your eyes, and I couldn't believe the results.

"Oh my-" I said in shock. "What? Is he right?" Taemin said in disbelief. Jaehyun came to my side and peeped at my screen.

"I can't see anything," he said, squinting harder at my phone screen. I increased the phone's brightness.

"Can't still see anything," he said. "Oh, sorry," I said before lifting the phone a bit. He let out a huff and grabbed my phone from my hands.

"Why do you have a privacy screen? No one cares," he said, but quickly got a smack on the head from Taemin.

"Shut up. Are you right or not?" He asked. Jaehyun stared at the screen in confusion. "Give my phone back to me," I said before collecting my phone from his hand.

"Okay, it says here that diabetes can't infect your eyes-" I was cut off by Taemin's loud laugh.

"Oh my gosh, Jaehyun. You said what? 'Your eyes are going to get diabetes?' That is the funniest thing I have heard today," he said in between laughs.

"The day is just starting, you fool," Jaehyun grumbled. "Wait, you didn't let me finish," I said quickly.

Taemin stopped laughing, and the biggest smile appeared on Jaehyun's face. "Really?" Jaehyun asked, his eyes had a glint of joy in them.

"Yeah. It says here that diabetes can't infect your eyes, but it causes serious eye problems, mainly through diabetic retinopathy. So you're not actually correct, but that doesn't mean diabetes doesn't affect the eyes," I explained.

Taemin turned to Jaehyun, "Well, you still aren't correct, so you owe me." Jaehyun rolled his eyes, "Okay, what do you want?"

"I don't have anything in mind, but when I do, I'll let you know," Taemin said with a wink, which provoked Jaehyun more.

"Hey!!" He said before putting Taemin in a headlock. Ha-ri sighed and held Dae's hand, "Let's leave here before their stupidity transfers to us through diffusion."

Dae nodded before following her into the bus. I stood there staring at the idiots and felt a pair of eyes on me. I looked past the two idiots and saw Min-ho staring at me with a small smile.

I walked to him with a small smile on my face, "Hey." "Hey," he greeted back. He looked over my shoulder, staring at the two boys in disbelief.

I noticed and let out a soft giggle, "Don't mind them. They do this a lot." He nodded, "I figured."

"Hey!" We heard Mr. Song yell out. We turned to him to realise he was actually yelling at the two idiots who were having a banter.

"You two should get into the bus right now!" He yelled. They both stopped what they were doing and gave Mr. Song a bow in apology.

"Hey, we should get going," Min-ho said before entering the bus. I followed after him and noticed that there were only 4 seats left on the bus.

Min-ho noticed, then turned to me, "You'll sit with Taemin, right?" I stared at him for a bit before shaking my head, "No, I'll sit with you."

He nodded his head and was about to sit near the window when I stopped him. "I would love to sit near the window, please," I said, my eyes pleading.

He nodded and made way for me to enter. I noticed Ha-ri staring at me in shock through my peripheral vision. I turned to her with a smile before sitting down.

Min-ho sat down and brought out his phone from his pocket. I stared at Taemin as he entered the bus. He raised a brow at me and came to our seat.

"Uh, excuse me, Min-ho, but can you get up?" He said with a forced smile. Min-ho turned to me before turning back to Taemin, "Why? I didn't see your name on this seat, and I sat down here first."

"Okay," Taemin said before looking at me, "Get up, Ji-seo." I crossed my arms, "No, go and take your seat," I said, staring ahead of me, not meeting his eyes.

"Would you please take your seat, Mr. Min?" Mr. Song said, already tired of his shenanigans this early morning.

Taemin nodded his head before taking one last glance at me, then going to take his seat.
