Bella had watched him carry them into the car with the most serious expression imaginable.
Now, one of those books was sitting beside him. He had already marked several pages with small sticky notes.
Bella stared at him.
Leo caught her gaze. "What?"
She narrowed her eyes. "Nothing."
"You've been staring at me for five minutes." He glanced at her from the corner of his eye.
"I'm trying to understand you." Her voice was serious.
Leo raised an eyebrow. "What's there to understand?"
"You."
He glanced at her. Then at the book. Then back at her. "I don't understand."
Bella shook her head.

When they finally reached home, Leo got out first and immediately walked around to her side of the car.
Before Bella could even open the door properly, he had already pulled it open and held out his hand.
She stared at him. "I can get out myself."
"I know."
Still, he waited until she took his hand.
