Chapter 4 - Chapter 4 - School

I think I enjoyed school, until I got into Olympus Academy. It was simple, with a structured schedule where my time was managed by everyone else. Classes were quiet, and I learnt enough things to have fun with it, which kept me going. Hanging around with those that had the same purpose I had was amazing, and it kept me sane through everything that happened at home.

And yet, right now, my eyes were threatening to close, looking at the board that contained such simple knowledge.

"Magic theory again?" Fly #1 said, sticking by my side as though it was completely normal. "Don't you think this is just redundant, Ben?"

Fly #2 responded, "Yeah, why can't it be a practical? I'm sure Atlas would blow us away with his magic, like always."

I grinned at that. My abilities in school were top-notch, as far as I remembered, but they both shut up. I frowned, looking at them. "What is it, worms?" I said, my voice lower than normal.

Worm #1 looked at me with slight confusion before a cracked smile slowly constructed itself, filling its faults. "Ah, just your brilliance stunned me for a second there."

Hehe, these kids knew how to talk.

Just then, the Professor, a middle-aged man who somehow looked still in his teens, shot a spark of lightning near us three. "Pay attention, you troublemakers," he said, his voice clean and gentle. He flipped his hair, swiping it backwards so it looked all pretty. Thirty sighs echoed across the classroom, twenty-nine of them female.

I had slammed my hand on the desk, standing up, arm raising to point at him as I yelled, "I'm go-MMPH!" The flies had covered my mouth, apologising as they pulled me back in my seat. While I was still shaking my fist at him, they whispered to me.

"Calm down, Atlas."

"You'll get your chance to show him."

Swatting their hands away, I ran my hands down my tongue, trying to get rid of their germs.

I stopped moving, and looked down at my palms. What the fuck was I doing? Why was I acting like a brat? I sat a bit straighter, my fists clenching as I glared in front of me. Professor Rayman was a handsome man, sure, but I'm quite good looking, too.

Mhm. That's right. Now... There they are.

Three students, one male, two female, sat with open notebooks in front of them, discussing with wild hand gestures about Rayman's teachings. The guy, a teen with not even a pimple, was the most passive, keeping his mouth shut unless he was being talked to. His seaweed-green hair shook when he decided he didn't like something. He looked like a giant bobbing clump of seaweed. Matthew D'Ewes was his name, and I led him to his death in my past life. My heart sank, yet I knew how important he was. Smart, with a talent in learning to bring him into the ranks of geniuses.

Next to him sat Eliza Uccello, a beautiful girl who had many admirers, once including me. Her brilliant dark purple hair shone in the filtered morning light. She would be a brilliant summoner, until I had turned all of her beasts against her. Maybe if I'd let her kill me...

No. Never.

The final girl, Claire, had blue hair and was of low blood. But everyone was allowed here, so long as they were talented enough, and she proved her abilities every day. Starting off at the bottom of the school, she quickly rose to match geniuses like me in intellect. Her affinity for water magic was quite high, if I recall. I might not have stabbed the dagger into her back, but I brought her death.

My heart beat fiercely while I stared at them, a hot energy rushing through my body. I was angry, at them. How could they be so talented when I killed them? That's right. They weren't anything special. It was all because of Him. They never would've been so important, if He hadn't...

I took a deep breath, and my focus came back through a nearby buzzing fly.

"Atlas, class has ended, it's time to show off your magic."

I grinned. They weren't ready for my wonderful magic. Everyone was filtering out of the classroom, heading to the training grounds.
