Chapter 8 - The Thresholds of Darkness

Chris began to feel that the darkness that had occupied his heart was no longer just a feeling, but had become part of his identity. In the days following the battle at the Palace of Shadows, he was in a state of confusion. Training had become an escape, as he focused on developing his new skills such as "Storm of Sorrow" and "Shadow of Rage," but he knew that every victory he achieved came at a heavy price.

As time passed, his team noticed the changes in Chris. He was training at an increasing rate, and when he should have been a leader, he was becoming a more ruthless person. "Chris, we need to plan better, we can't continue like this," Lina said, feeling worried.

"Planning won't save us from death!" Chris responded angrily, his eyes glinting with a bit of darkness. Her words echoed in his mind, but he felt hope slipping away from him.

That night, as the sky was overcast, they received tragic news. One of the team members, Anas, had been attacked by possessors. He was not just a colleague, he was a close friend to Chris. Anas was always by his side, offering support and assistance in difficult times. His death was a devastating blow.

When Chris heard the news, he felt the ground slip under his feet. "No, it can't be true!" he cried, tears streaming down his cheeks. He felt the emptiness Anas had left, as if he had lost a part of himself. As he reflected on their shared memories, anger began to creep into his heart.

The team gathered in the meeting room, but Chris couldn't concentrate. "We must take revenge!" he shouted, his face filled with tension. "We can't let them get away with this!" Those words held an extraordinary power, but they also signaled his slide into darkness.

"But revenge won't bring Anas back," Lina said quietly, trying to calm him down. But Chris couldn't hear her voice. All he could see was the shadow that had taken his friend. "I want to gain the power to protect you. I will do anything!" Chris said, his eyes burning with flame.

That night, Chris decided to go to the Temple of the Moaning again. He believed that there were new powers that could enhance his strength. As he walked towards the temple, shadows followed him, as if inviting him to dive deeper into its darkness.

Inside the temple, where the air was saturated with sorrow, he saw the strange man he had met earlier. "Welcome back, Chris. It seems you have come to seek more power." His smile had a bit of malice in it.

"I want the power to take revenge!" Chris said, his eyes sparkling. "I want to see those who caused Anas' death suffer!"

"Revenge is not just a power, it's a dark path. But if you're determined, I'll teach you new skills, like the 'Power of Melancholy' and the 'Shadows of Vengeance'. But remember, every skill comes at a price."

Chris accepted, determined to pay any price. He began to learn new skills, and the more powerful he became, the more empty he felt. Every spell he learned took him away from his humanity. He drew strength from pain and grief, causing him to slide further into darkness.

After days of training, Chris decided it was time to take revenge. He gathered the team and told them his plan. "We're going to the possessors' stronghold. I'm going to eliminate them all because I can't take this pain anymore!" His tone was determined, but deep inside, there was a struggle between good and evil.

"This is dangerous, Chris. We need to check our plan," Lena said, but Chris cut her off. "I don't want to hear anything about danger! I'll do what needs to be done!"

That night, the team moved towards the possessors' stronghold. Chris's heart was pounding, not just from fear, but from excitement. Darkness surrounded them, and he felt a new power coursing through his veins. He was determined to get revenge, and he was willing to do anything to achieve it.

When they arrived, the place was dark and desolate. The dark creatures were gathering, as if waiting for them to come. "Be careful, Chris," Lina whispered, but Chris had lost interest in the advice.

The battle began, and it was fierce. Chris used his new skills, and unleashed the "Storm of Sorrow," quickly destroying some of the creatures. But with each victory, he felt a pang in his heart. "Are you doing this for Anas, or for yourself?" Those words played on his mind, but he insisted on continuing.

As the battle escalated, Chris saw one of the possessors, the one responsible for Anas' death. He was powerful and evil. "I have come to take revenge!" Chris shouted, unleashing the "Shadows of Wrath," destroying part of the place.

But as he prepared to deliver his final blow, his heart stopped for a moment. He saw the pain in the possessor's eyes. "I didn't want to, but I had no choice," the possessor said, making Chris hesitate.

"I don't care about your excuse!" Chris shouted, but he felt something shift inside him. That moment was enough to bring him back to his memories with Anas, with his laughter and support. But the power of revenge was stronger, and he continued to attack.

As time passed, Chris realized that his revenge wasn't bringing him peace, but was darkening his heart even more. As the battle intensified, he began to feel lonely. The team was retreating, and shadows began to surround him, as if warning him of the consequences.

When the battle was over, Chris stood amidst the rubble, determined to exact revenge, but the price was too high. He looked around and saw the destruction left behind, but also the sad faces of his friends. "What have I done?" he whispered to himself, but the echo of darkness filled his mind.

At that moment, Chris realized that he had lost something bigger than anyone else. He had lost himself. As the shadows gathered around him, he began to sense that the path he had chosen was leading to the abyss.

When the team returned to the city, the atmosphere was tense. Chris felt the weight of failure and disappointment. While they tried to recover, he was sinking into his own inner darkness. "Will I be the villain in this story?" he wondered bitterly, but deep in his heart he knew that he had gone too far.

As the next chapters approached, Chris was on the verge of sliding completely into darkness, not knowing how he could ever get back. The real battle had begun, and with every step, he felt like he was losing a part of himself.
