Chapter 50 - Chapter 50: Justice Served

The members of the rescue team were met with a disturbing sight as they boarded Jonah Melville's yacht, his subordinates clutching their arms while crying and wailing in agony!

Their arm joints were twisted in completely unnatural directions, as if they had been forcibly broken with surgical precision!

These were the same arms they had used to grip their submachine guns during their assault on the Krakken.

"What... what happened here?" one rescue team member asked with obvious shock.

"Who did this? Could it have been the lake monster?!" another responder questioned, their voice filled with disbelief.

Everyone on the rescue team exchanged bewildered glances. They had conducted countless rescues throughout their careers, but they had never encountered such a precisely delivered form of justice. The scene left them all stunned.

"What in the world happened here??" Captain Shaw emerged from the yacht's cabin, his face displaying shock as he surveyed the scene before him. Despite the disturbing nature of what he witnessed, a surge of wicked satisfaction filled his heart. No matter who had taught this group of criminals a lesson, in his mind they were like a real-life superhero!

This wasn't a peaceful world, it was a chaotic realm filled with countless lawbreakers and violent criminals. Sometimes vigilante justice was exactly what the situation demanded!

After the rescue team recovered from their initial shock, they detained and arrested all the surviving crew members, leaving them to await judgment from the local judicial system. Of course, given the severity of their crimes, it was likely these men would never see freedom again.

Captain Shaw settled into one of the rescue team's inflatable boats and made his way back toward shore, his expression grim but satisfied.

As for Jonah Melville, that despicable excuse for a human being...

When he had fallen to the lake bottom with the Krakken, his limbs flailed desperately in the deep water, his expression filled with pure terror. He struggled frantically to swim upward, but the ancient creature repeatedly pushed him down with her massive head, refusing to let him escape!

Gradually...

The Krakken stared coldly at Melville as his struggles grew weaker and weaker, his movements becoming increasingly feeble, until...

He died completely!

Melville's eyes remained open in death, pupils dilated with the agony he had suffered in his final moments. The expression frozen on his face spoke of unimaginable pain!

The Krakken could sense that the four-armed warrior was her friend, one of the righteous beings among humans. She hadn't expected him to be so incredibly powerful!

"Thank you, friend!" the Krakken's voice resonated through her mental communication, creating earth-shaking vibrations that spread throughout the entire lake.

To ordinary people, this would sound like the furious roar of an enraged lake monster.

Asher, who had already returned to shore with the others, smiled when he heard those words. Through his Aquatic Creature Communication ability, he understood exactly what the Krakken was saying.

Justice had finally been served to that criminal gang!

"What's wrong with the Krakken?" Ben asked with concern.

"She must be very angry," Gwen replied, looking toward the water with sympathy.

"Actually, she's thanking me," Asher said lightly, his tone carrying quiet satisfaction.

"Come on, Asher, stop joking around. How could you possibly understand what a lake creature is saying?" Ben walked over and patted Asher on the shoulder with obvious amusement. "You're not some kind of fish-man."

"Well, I was just kidding," Asher replied, going along with Ben's assumption while inwardly marveling at how close to the truth his cousin had come.

"Are you all okay?!"

A familiar voice called out from across the water!

Captain Shaw waved to everyone as he rowed his inflatable boat toward shore, a triumphant smile spread across his weathered face. "Wait until I tell you the good news!"

"It looks like Captain Shaw is in an excellent mood. If I'm not mistaken, our fishing plans will finally resume this afternoon!" Max said with obvious anticipation, his spirits lifting at the prospect of a peaceful conclusion to their adventure.

"Finally, we can relax and enjoy ourselves!" Asher stretched his arms above his head, his voice carrying a note of exhaustion from the morning's intense confrontation.

Later that afternoon...

After reaching shore, Captain Shaw enthusiastically shared what had happened to Melville and his criminal crew. In celebration of their defeat, he happily offered his services free of charge, taking Max and the others on a proper fishing expedition without any payment required!

The entire afternoon was spent in peaceful activities, fishing, swimming, and other recreational pursuits. As evening approached, they gathered around a crackling campfire to enjoy grilled fish under the stars.

It wasn't until the early morning of the next day that Asher, Max, and the others said their farewells to Captain Shaw and returned to the Rust Bucket, preparing to leave the lake behind.

Since it was a weekend, the lake area was quiet and peaceful. Not many people were around the marina, and even Captain Shaw had returned home to rest after their extended celebration.

Before getting into the RV, Asher glanced back at the lake instinctively, a trace of concern flickering in his mind. The Krakken's injuries weren't minor. I hope she'll be able to recover properly.

As if sensing his impending departure, a gentle disturbance appeared on the lake's surface in the distance.

Splash.

The Krakken's massive head emerged from the water, her pair of intelligent dark eyes focusing directly on Asher with unmistakable recognition and gratitude.

"Goodbye, Krakken!" Asher looked toward the ancient creature, not speaking aloud but projecting his thoughts through their telepathic connection.

"Goodbye, friend!" the Krakken responded through their mental link, her tone filled with genuine reluctance. She was deeply saddened to see her only human ally departing, the one being who had shown her kindness and understanding.

"Next time I visit, I'll come see you again. Take care of yourself," Asher conveyed with sincere concern, his mental voice carrying the warmth of true friendship.

"Is that the Krakken?"

"Is she here for us?"

Ben and Gwen gazed in amazement at the creature's partially surfaced form, while Max observed Asher's focused stare toward the lake with a hint of knowing surprise in his expression.

Could it be that Asher really can communicate with the Krakken? Max wondered silently, though he kept his suspicions to himself.

"See you later, friend!" After sharing this final farewell, the Krakken slowly sank back beneath the water's surface. She preferred to avoid contact with humans other than Asher, wanting to return to the peaceful solitude of the lake's depths.

"That's too bad, she disappeared too quickly," Ben sighed with disappointment. "I didn't get a chance to take a proper photo. But I'll definitely write about this in my summer vacation diary."

"Let's go. We don't want to delay our trip any longer," Asher said, packing away his emotions as he addressed Max and the others beside him.

"Let's hit the road!" one by one, everyone climbed into the familiar comfort of the Rust Bucket.

Next time I return, Asher thought as he settled into his seat, I hope the Krakken is doing well. Perhaps I'll even get to meet some young Krakkens!

As the Rust Bucket pulled away from the lake, Ben looked curiously toward Max and asked, "Grandpa, where are we headed today?"

"Today?" Max glanced at his grandson through the rearview mirror with a mysterious smile. "We're going to visit Aunt Vera's house!"
