The twenty-seventh day of the lunar month, snow—it's been falling all day without stopping, piling even thicker on the roads.
The twenty-eighth day, the Xu Family is lively—today, Xu Qinghe and Xu Yuchun are slaughtering a pig together. The two families are splitting one pig. In previous years, this was something they never even dared to think about. All year round, if they managed to buy ten or so jin of meat, they'd already feel the pain in their wallets.
But now, they don't feel that way anymore. Qingsong Furniture Factory let them earn money; with cash in their hands, they've got confidence in their hearts, and this pig was raised on leftover kitchen scraps from the factory lunches. Plus Ji Ying and Xiong Xihua, the two sisters-in-law, would occasionally go out to gather pig grass. That pig got raised big and fat.
