Chapter 7 - Get a Divorce

This cold man was sitting down at the table patiently waiting for my food! My eyes almost popped. I kept everything simple. He ate the food with relish. The way he ate showed me he had enjoyed my cooking before. This damned memory!

*********************

My Sunday went by just like that. The night was especially long for me. Rolling over to Mo Jinsheng's side had become almost the same as crossing a laser ray line.

I was so grumpy the next morning.

At the dinner table, I picked at my food thinking about how to spend my day since the office was off limits until the doctor permits.

A greeting at the door, the sound of the marble floor and the shrill voice of my cousin, Li Ru didn't help my sour mood. Li Ru had been the one closest to me when I started dating Desmond Mo. She had encouraged me in all the way possible to date Desmond. She had even gone as far as

Acting as emissary for letter exchange between us. Now, my cousin just looks desperate to me.

"Chaihong, I miss you. " Excitement, a condescending and a distant hug proves my conjectures right.

"Ru, sit" I said. Her body jolted reflexively.

"Chaihong, how are you?"

"Ru, my kind Ru. Eat with me" I smiled through clenched teeth. I hope I can keep this up till the end. Let's not burn the bridges now. My conjectures may be wrong.

"Chaihong, I have prayed day and night for your recovery."

"I only spent a day there. How can I not be fine."

"I know but it felt like many days to me. When you lost your memory for a while. I was here with you. I helped with everything, remember." She smiled, her lips growing wider by the second.

"Yes. Thanks cousin."

"Chaihong always talked about divorcing Mo Jinsheng. The heavens are really on your side. Getting your memory back will make it easier. How about we together." Finally we are getting close. I don't have to wait long.

" Li Ru, is the life of a rich young missus tiring?"

"Chaihong, oh Chaihong my heart also aches for you. Just divorce already. The other day, I overheard grandfather telling my dad how tiring it has been for his little Chaihong." She drew her chair closer to mine and even patted my hands.

I held unto hers and said "Do you think I don't want to divorce him. He is so cold and unfeeling. He even has a side chick that flaunts herself Infront of me, but the family?" I try to sound vexed and pitiful. It was playing out well.

"Mo Jinsheng has said that if I can find a member of our family that can satisfy his high taste...."

Li Ru's eyes lit up. She was almost jumping in her seat.

"I am thinking of recommending..." She was smiling from ear to ear.

"But there's none that has caught his eye"

I spoke very slowly, as if sad by such a result.

"What!" she almost screamed.

"Can you believe it." I pretended to be perplexed.

Not knowing how to respond, she forced a smiled and I smiled back genuinely, very satisfied with her reaction.

"His taste is too high" I continued

"I even talked about my cou..."

"Chaihong something just came up, I have to go" she cut me off hurriedly, carrying her bag as she felt the dinner room.

"Ru wait. Finish your meal" I called gently but she was already rushing out of the house. Laughter and sadness overwhelmed me all at once.

"Miss Li are you idle?"

Startled, I turned to face the man whose deep, cold voice frightens me. All my sense became heightened.

"Mr. Mo is still at home?"

"Yes, my grandmother insists that her granddaughter-in-law join the company since she's married to it" he looked as displeased as he sounded.

In my head:'what does he mean my married to it. Did I marry the company or him'

"But I'm still not well."

"That's not true. Anyone who is unwell will not have the energy to tease people."

"Trying to get back at me just for this little fun, petty man." I was pissed.

"Your daily consumptions has to be paid for. It's been two years. How much do you think that's worth."

"I'll go change!" I stormed out in anger.

Cold and petty. Stingy too. Huffffff
