"I don't believe it." Si Wen figured Xue Xing was just teasing her.
"Don't be so quick to doubt it," Xue Xing said. "When it comes to our southern winters, there's no such thing as 'most ridiculous,' only 'more ridiculous.' Think back to when you were visiting. The temperatures were high for a few days, right? And yet, you still couldn't get by with just a single layer. That's what I mean."
Si Wen recalled the experience, and it seemed to be true. The sun had been incredibly fierce during those days, yet wearing one less layer still felt frigid. It was a cold that seeped right into your bones. But if you put on an extra piece of clothing, even just a thin jacket, it would feel too hot. Realization dawned on her. "Oh, so that's how it is."
"Now you know I wasn't lying, right?" Xue Xing said.
"When I saw you wearing so little yesterday, I thought you weren't afraid of the cold," Si Wen replied.
