In places near Jiangnan Road, even run-of-the-mill taverns seem to exude an air of literary atmosphere. Their names differ from the straightforward and rugged styles of the Northern Lands; they avoid names such as "Guest Come," and certainly shun the vulgar simplicity of "Zhang's" or "Wang's."
