The rest of the walk was in silence.

Pleasant enough, she thought.
Though her arms were getting tired. Darry was still small, but he was starting to get heavier as he grew. That was a good sign that he was healthy and eating, of course, but it did make things harder for her.
She paused for a moment at one of the large windows, leaning against the wall to rest for a second and to catch her breath without making it obvious that she was doing so.
The rain had slowed. The dark clouds were starting to thin. In the distance, she could see the mountains of Sidera, their jagged peaks rising like teeth into the sky.
It was a beautiful, but terrible view. The land was beautiful, but the people... the people were not. She couldn't help but wonder if the harshness of the land had made them that way.
Ilarion didn't press her to move on. He just stood there with her, his gaze also on the view. He seemed to understand her need for a moment of quiet, and for that she was grateful.
