The intensity in his voice, in his eyes...
It was terrifying.
And yet...
There was a part of her that couldn't help but believe him. A part of her that knew, with a cold, certain clarity, that when Donncahd said he would do something, he would do it.
No matter how long it took. No matter what the cost.
It was one of the few things she could admire about him, in a strange, twisted way.
His...dedication to revenge.
But it wasn't a comforting thought. Not when she knew that same dedication could just as easily be turned on her.
Would be.
The thought was a cold splash of reality, a stark reminder of the danger she was in.
She looked away from him, her gaze fixing on the flickering torches on the wall, their light dancing in her peripheral vision.
"So..." She began, trying to steer the conversation to safer ground. "Was there a reason you summoned me to dinner? Or did you just miss my company?"
He snorted, a soft, derisive sound. "Don't flatter yourself."
