The metallic taste of his own blood still filled Liam's mouth as he felt his consciousness begin to fade. His muscles failed him, air refused to come, and the cold gleam of the enemy's blade reflected the inevitable end.
Then, something deep within him awoke. A being seized his body once again. Liam didn't fight it; he no longer had the strength to.
His body arched suddenly, as if struck by an invisible current of lightning. The blood spilling from his wound seemed to boil, evaporating into a scarlet mist that coiled around his hands.
When he lifted his head, his eyes were no longer the same: they burned with a deep crimson glow, blazing like embers in the dark.
The dead-eyed man, Aeris, faltered for a moment, his raised blade frozen mid-air. Instinctively, he recognized the danger before him.
"What are you?" he muttered, a mix of surprise and curiosity in his voice.
