Chapter 603, With a Guide, It'll Be Faster
Sheila Grey arranged for someone to come find him.
No need to say it—he could already guess it was that level 18 Mage who had arrived on the island.
Sure enough, he came from the main Guild, and was looking for him.
There weren't many matters connected to him at the main Guild.
Lilith, Imiro, and that incident with Luan challenging him.
Lilith and he had always corresponded via letters. Imiro was a prince of the Elves—if anything were needed, the Elves should be the ones sending someone.
The most likely was still Luan and his master.
He had sent the newspaper to the main Guild—if Luan and his master wanted revenge, they probably wouldn't act so hastily.
"Have lunch ready for me first. I'll go after I eat," Wu Heng said.
"What would Master like to eat?" Minnie asked with a smile.
"Seafood noodles, something simple."
"Alright!" Minnie nodded and quickly walked toward the kitchen.
...…
Guild, dormitory.
The door opened, and a burly attendant walked in holding several newspapers, handing them to the robe-clad 'Virgil'.
"You can buy earlier issues at City Hall—it's not too much trouble."
Virgil nodded and picked up the papers, skimming through each one.
"It doesn't say—are these streetlights a form of Mechcraft or a magical item?"
"It doesn't say, but I feel like it's a magical item. If you stand beneath it, you can see something inside the glass cover—probably a rune-etched item," the attendant speculated.
After arriving on the island, they originally thought the newspaper was the most surprising thing.
But once night fell, the bright white light shining in through the windows—
Immediately caught their attention.
After leaving the Guild—
They saw the entire central district illuminated.
Under the lights, many residents gathered, enjoying the cool night air, with street vendors selling goods.
Even livelier than during the day.
All three of them were wide-eyed.
They realized the iron poles they saw during the day weren't flag holders but glowing magical items.
Lighting up the entire area.
Even the Guild's headquarters wasn't this impressive.
But that's a place where heroes gather.
And here? A small island at sea.
A small island taken from pirates.
At dawn, they sent someone out to inquire and buy the newspaper.
But still couldn't confirm whether it was a magical item or not.
Virgil put away the papers and asked, "Has he returned yet?"
"Still no word. I'll send someone to urge him again."
"No rush." Virgil paused and added, "Go ask Sheila Grey—aside from Imiro, does he have contact with anyone else?"
The attendant blinked. "You want to take him as a disciple?"
"Our classes are too different—just go ask first."
...…
Guild.
After lunch, Wu Heng arrived at the Guild.
With a flash, he swiftly entered the steward's study.
Sheila Grey frowned. "What are you doing?"
"Did a level 18 Professional come looking for me?" Wu Heng asked cautiously.
Sheila Grey was amused by his expression. "Didn't you already beat a level 18 Professional? What are you nervous about?"
"Not nervous. I just don't know what he wants. Do you know why he's looking for me?" Wu Heng asked.
Sheila Grey closed the file on her desk and said, "Virgil, a Divination Mage, came here seemingly to invite you to join the Hongwen Society."
A Divination Mage?
That class was rare and not known for its combat strength.
Its skills leaned toward scouting, foresight, and mind detection spells.
Best to be cautious when speaking with him—to avoid any trouble.
"Came all the way here just to invite me? Am I really that famous now?" Wu Heng asked curiously.
He had heard of the Hongwen Society.
Over this long time, he wasn't just passing the days idly.
The Hongwen Society consisted mostly of Mages, Bards, and similar classes—in Wu Heng's mind, it was a gathering of highly educated individuals.
"Take a look at this first." Sheila Grey handed him a letter. "Miss Moya wrote this to me—it also mentions you. Virgil was sent a day later. I feel the Hongwen Society's invitation is related to your defeat of Luan."
Moya was Imiro's assistant.
She actually wrote to Gold-Silver Island.
Wu Heng accepted it—the envelope had already been opened.
He took out the letter and unfolded it to read.
The first part contained routine questions for Sheila Grey.
The latter half stated: 「Lord Imiro has received Wu Heng's letter and has issued a challenge to 'Moffat'. The other party declined due to 'fatigue'.
Moffat and his disciple are narrow-minded. The newspapers from Gold-Silver Island have spread through the main Guild, damaging their reputation. Be cautious of underhanded tactics. Write promptly if anything arises.」
After reading, Wu Heng raised an eyebrow.
So Imiro had also submitted a challenge to the main Guild—intending to beat up Moffat.
Thinking about it—it made perfect sense.
Luan challenged Wu Heng, so Imiro could challenge Moffat.
But clearly, Imiro was stronger—Moffat didn't even dare accept.
Moya even warned about potential shady tactics.
Suspecting the other party wouldn't attack head-on, but might pull tricks in the dark.
"Let me hold on to the letter. When the new newspaper comes out in a few days, I'll publish this news." Wu Heng said.
Sheila Grey looked at him. "You're not worried at all about the danger mentioned in the letter?"
"What's there to worry about? If I trip on my way out, I'll just write to Steward Imiro saying I was assassinated and let him beat up Moffat." Wu Heng said seriously.
"You... impressive." Sheila Grey started to speak, but only managed that one word.
Shiyali propped her chin and smiled as she watched them talk.
Wu Heng put the letter away and continued, "So basically, I've made a name for myself at the main Guild. The Hongwen Society sees me as someone who defeated Luan and has potential, so they invited me."
Sheila Grey nodded, "That's how I see it."
"What do you think? Should I join?"
Sheila Grey gave him a puzzled look. "You're asking me? What do you think?"
"You're more knowledgeable—help me weigh the pros and cons."
"The Hongwen Society has a high threshold. Only those recognized are invited. I think joining would benefit you," Sheila Grey analyzed.
That wasn't far from what Wu Heng was thinking.
It was an internal Guild organization—no harm in joining.
And being around more Mages meant more chances to obtain skill books.
"Then I'll follow your advice."
"You already made up your mind. Don't act like it's on me," Sheila Grey rolled her eyes, then stood up and said, "Let's go to the meeting room. I'll have someone invite 'Virgil'."
Wu Heng also stood up, said goodbye to Shiyali, and left the study.
...…
In the meeting room—
After waiting a moment, the door opened.
A rosy-cheeked Mage in a long robe entered, followed by two attendants.
Sheila Grey introduced, "This is Mr. Virgil, from the main Guild."
Then introduced Wu Heng, "Wu Heng, Lord of Gold-Silver Island."
All three looked at Wu Heng curiously, sizing him up.
The newspapers sent to the Guild had his photo—he looked exactly the same.
Wu Heng had seen the three from afar through Glenda's vision.
He had only glanced at them, then looked away.
"Mr. Virgil." Wu Heng greeted with a smile.
"Lord Wu Heng." The old Mage also smiled.
After they sat down—
Virgil continued, "I've heard of your deeds, Lord Wu Heng. So young and accomplished."
Wu Heng smiled and said, "You flatter me, Virgil. I'm just following the examples of heroes and doing my part."
"Haha! Well said." Virgil stroked his beard and gave Wu Heng another once-over.
He said, "You have talent, but your class transfer came a bit late."
"If you had a mentor to guide you, your progress would be even smoother."
"You might reach level 18 within three years."
