Chapter 443: The Plan Proceeds Smoothly

Pressing against the wall, Annie turned her head to dodge a flying crossbow bolt and raised her hand to pin an oncoming drow soldier to the wall.

Ignoring his dying screams and agony, Annie gazed in amazement at the modified soldiers charging out from the dark corners.

Ordinary drow soldiers, standing between 1.6 meters and 1.75 meters tall, had relatively slender and frail builds.

They typically wielded short swords, soft bows, or hand crossbows.

Their professions were mostly rogues or assassins, with very few becoming warriors.

The reason was not a lack of aptitude but the extreme difficulty for warriors to survive in drow city-states.

They often faced relentless competition and assassination attempts.

Whether it was sudden arrows or poison hidden in food and water,

one mistake could cost them their lives.

While warriors performed better on the battlefield, no drow would ever sacrifice themselves for others.

Thus, when these drow soldiers faced modified warriors who were over 30 centimeters taller and clad in heavy armor, they were utterly outmatched at first contact.

With a seemingly mundane swing of a massive long-handled blade, the modified warriors…

would slice through the heads or even bisect the bodies of the drow soldiers before they could get close.

The height, reach, and raw power advantage was displayed to the fullest.

The drow soldiers had no room to dodge in the narrow passage, and as they charged together, they were decapitated with ease.

Occasionally, agile drow attempted to attack the lower body of the modified warriors.

They underestimated the warriors' agility and were promptly kicked away.

Crack!

The chest of the kicked drow caved in, his cruel and ferocious expression replaced by pure agony.

His body flew back like a cannonball, knocking over the drow behind him.

By the time he landed, he was barely alive.

The drow behind, unable to see the grim fate of their comrades in front, rushed forward to capture the elf and mage.

However, they ran headlong into a death trap.

Skilled drow assassins who tried to sneak past the warriors' flashing blades found their attacks futile.

Clang!

Sparks flew, illuminating their horrified faces.

Their enchanted weapons couldn't penetrate the modified warriors' defenses!

The seemingly ordinary armor was unbelievably sturdy.

Crack!

A flash of a blade…

And the drow soldiers, with no way to escape, fell without resistance.

Annie, her initial tension dissipating, focused on finding threatening targets and shot her bow decisively.

Several invisible enemies were taken down without resistance, collapsing lifelessly.

Four blood-soaked modified warriors stood fearlessly at the cave's entrance, holding their ground.

Incoming crossbow bolts and poison darts failed to breach their defenses.

Other drow soldiers attempted to circle around.

However, this location, carefully chosen by Matthew, was a "safe" zone validated countless times by players and monsters alike.

Unless the drow could climb over ten meters to reach Matthew, there was only one entrance and exit below.

In just three minutes,

Over fifty drow soldiers had fallen to the blades of the modified warriors.

Broken corpses littered the narrow passage.

The thick stench of blood made the eerie cave entrance even more terrifying.

The modified warriors' overwhelming power struck fear into the remaining drow soldiers.

They hesitated to charge further and began retreating to the sides of the cave entrance.

The modified warriors didn't pursue. They quickly drank nutrient potions to restore their stamina to peak condition.

Two warriors also drank antidote potions. Feeling their strength rapidly return, they burst into laughter:

"Hahaha, come on, try again!"

"Just a bunch of cowards. Scared of dying already?"

"Drow soldiers aren't so tough. Can't even withstand a single strike!"

"…"

Hearing the warriors' loud taunts, the drow soldiers outside turned livid.

At that moment, a chilling aura gathered above them.

A dense shower of icy crystal spikes cascaded down with a "clink, clink" sound.

Filled with pent-up frustration, the drow soldiers scattered in terror.

Having a clear grasp of the situation, Matthew was very satisfied with the warriors' strength and silently awaited news from Elio.

Two kilometers away…

Frenzied howls erupted as gnoll warriors blocked the gates inside and out.

They glared furiously at a fleeing figure, raising their weapons to charge.

Swinging his axe, Beelzebub cut down a charging gnoll, ignoring the blood spraying everywhere as he pressed forward.

Facing the overwhelming numbers of gnolls ahead, Beelzebub remained unfazed.

Amid the wolves' continuous howling, a crimson light flared near the gates.

A deadly whirlwind of sword energy slashed into the gnoll horde from behind.

The encircling gnolls suffered heavy losses, their comrades' blood and wails only fueling their rage.

They failed to block Beelzebub, who was joined by Elio, and the two trampled over the gnoll corpses as they fled boldly.

Three thousand gnoll soldiers chased after them in a frenzy.

Their eyes were bloodshot, their faces taut.

Watching the scene, Parry pinched his cheek in disbelief. It hurt, confirming he wasn't dreaming.

Recalling his orders, he resisted the urge to shoot arrows in support, instead signaling directions before retracing his steps.

About five minutes later…

Hajik, hearing the drow commander's orders with a mix of surprise and delight, was just about to lead reinforcements.

The gnolls' deafening howls froze him in his tracks. Turning to look, his pupils constricted.

"Enemy attack!!"

A swarm of gnolls charged like a tidal wave.

The drow scouts, lacking the ability to withstand a direct assault, scattered under the gnoll army's advance.

Hajik's face paled as he watched them flee toward the gnoll camp. His earlier joy vanished, replaced by a bitter murmur:

"It's over…"

The catastrophic failure nearly shattered Hajik's spirit.

However, having overcome countless hardships to achieve his current status, Hajik quickly regained composure.

He hastily regrouped his remaining forces, now halved, and gave chase.

This wasn't the time to give up!
