Chapter 9 - Church.

I frowned. There was definitely something strange going on, something I had a feeling was connected to the reason I was here.

Sigh

There was nothing I could do about it at the moment, so it's best I leave it for later and get on with my day. It should be almost an hour at this point, so I climbed the stairs in search of Lilith.

The second floor of the library seemed more spacious than the first. There were few shelves here, and the ones that were here were neatly kept against the wall. Three circular windows were on the far back wall, allowing an ample amount of light to enter, although it seemed most of that light shone on a single person, reading alone.

Her raven hair flowed gently in the small gusts from the window, reminding me of the night sky shimmering in the light. Her gray eyes lifted, meeting mine. I gave her a look showing I was ready to leave. Realizing this, she rose from her seat and calmly walked over to me. Once she got to where I was, she continued walking, and I followed behind her.

"Where are we going next?" I asked with a curious tone.

"To the church, I would like you to meet the mother." Her tone was cold. But as she spoke the last few words, her voice shook.

'Is she ok? She's been acting weird since earlier.' I look at her with concern.

~~~
Lilith's body felt strained, while she was doing a great job at hiding it, she didn't know how long she had before her body gave in. Ever since she saw the illusion... Or whatever it was, of Adam, her body felt heavy, as if she had constant weight on her shoulders. The air was cold, and worse of all, in every reflection she looked in, she saw them.
She glanced at the window beside her. Two piercing silver eyes stared at her. A quiet dread slowly spread through her.
They walked and walked, making turn after turn, the familiar buildings fading and blurring in her vision.
After what felt like days, the church came into view.
Step
Her legs trembled.
The world darkened once more. The threads were spreading around her, and while she could not see them, she knew, she felt it, the stare, the harrowing eyes stared at her, as if trying to burn a hole through her. It was right there, the gates to the church grounds. Relief bubbled inside her as she walked closer.
Step
She took another step, placing her foot through the gate. She pushed herself forward, walking through the gates. Imperceptibly small lights blew past her in warm wind. The darkness faded, and the pressure lifted.
Sigh... She felt the tension lift from her body, causing her to stumble. She turned to look behind her, meeting the golden gaze of the man behind her, her face stiffened. Although she should be used to situations such as this as a member of the heart order but something about that man, or whatever he is, filled her with an inexplicable dread.
The more she thought about it, the more he felt strange. Even though he seemed to be someone of great strength, he was swallowed by a silver serpent of all things. He seemed to be of the vampiric line, so that could explain how he got us to bring him here, but how is he in the sun without coverage? Is he just that strong? But he doesn't even seem weakened... She decided to let it go and let the Mother and elders handle him.
~~~

Although she seemed fine now, I had been watching her since earlier. For some reason, she was trembling, and she even stumbled after walking through the gate, if not for my enhanced senses, I would not have noticed. I wanted to ask her about it, but decided against it, I had no business prying.

I also felt something after walking through, as if I had passed through a barrier, the feeling was accompanied by whispers.

"A... Ada... dam... com... o me..."

It was faint, but I could tell it was calling me. It felt close, but I could tell it was coming from inside the church. I looked toward the building in front of me, its white walls rose high, peach pillars forming arches over a marble path leading to its doors, the grass of the yard was green and lush, rose bushes following along the path. It was quite nice, something about it also filled him with glee for some reason.

"Let's go to the prayer area first, the Mother might want to meet you." Lilith spoke.

"Ah..."

Realizing we had reached the door, I followed her as she pushed the doors open and entered the building.
