Lo Jik observed the two kittens carefully. They still did not act crazily in search for food. Their routine consisted of licking each other's fur and falling asleep. Because they licked each other's fur, they coughed out those strange hair balls four more times. Counting the days, they would cough a hair ball every fifteen days. And… something strange happened every time they coughed out a hair ball.
Earlier, Lo Jik was unsuccessful in exchanging Golden Cloud Qilin with Jeweled Eyes Crow. Later on, he settled for a rare refinement path desolate shark. The next time the kittens coughed out hair balls, almost every clone within the human path blessed land refining the gu worm at the time failed simultaneously, causing Lo Jik slight losses as a few more clones were destroyed. This did not happen usually. Lo Jik's own refinement path attainment was deep, his recipes were solid, and the refinement path clones—the refiner and hairy men—also had innate ability to influence the gu refinement's success! This failure was too conspicuous! He continued to suffer three more times like this while observing the kittens.
Of course, Lo Jik himself could not arrive in his blessed land without setting it down or using rank 6 Inviting Pagoda Immortal Gu Worm. Instead, scrutinizing the pair of luck path desolate beast was a new clone. With his profound great grandmaster-level attainment in luck and human paths, developing a recipe for a luck path clone after observing the luck path dao marks on the desolate beasts was only a matter of time. Successful refinement of the clone further allowed Lo Jik access to some luck path recipes, which further deepened Lo Jik's understanding of this mysterious path.
Mortal killer move—Luck Inspection.
Several gu worms in Lo Jik's second blessed land floated under the effects of his immortal essence. The core gu worm was none other than a rank 5 luck path investigation gu worm—Luck Inspection Gu Worm.
Lo Jik targeted himself with the killer move and looked upwards while still seated on his cultivation mat.
As the name suggested, Luck Inspection Gu allowed a gu master to inspect the target's luck!
Luck was a largely vague force. Many gu masters cursed their luck when they failed instead of polishing their skills and many attributed their success to luck. However, only a few possessed concrete evidence of the existence of luck path!
It was rumored that this path was found and developed by none other than Giant Sun Immortal Venerable.
Currently, Lo Jik observed a strange phenomenon above his head. With the effects of the killer move, he could see his luck.
'It's so mystical no matter how many times I view it.' Lo Jik sighed deeply. His luck was like a grand tree. This tree was tall and sturdy, its trunk was thick and its root extended downwards before vanishing above Lo Jik's head. There were only five branches on the tree with no leaves in sight. Strangely enough, five different colored peach blossoms bloomed on the five branches. The largest one was gold and reflective in color. The other four blossoms, though the same size, were all different in colors. Most notable among them was a peach blossom that let out a dream-like smoke. It stood out compared to the rest and was extremely attractive to Lo Jik.
The five peach blossoms were vibrant and delicate. But the sturdy tree was extremely desolate. It was as if the tree was waiting to be filled with flowers and leaves.
This was Lo Jik's luck!
Ordinarily, rank 5 Luck Inspection was not enough to view his luck or scrutinize the strange mechanism of the luck path desolate beasts. After all, Lo Jik was already a gu immortal. A rank 5 gu worm could not inspect a gu immortal's or a desolate beast's luck. However, Lo Jik's greatest trump card was—
Accumulation!
A mortal killer move using Accumulation Gu was enough for the time being. Lo Jik inspected his own luck and the beasts at once.
The tree branches suddenly shuddered as the kittens started to cough and gag.
Under Lo Jik's dark gaze, the entire tree suddenly turned a notch smaller as the luck path desolate beasts spat out their respective hair balls.
'They are affecting my luck somehow.' Lo Jik thinned his lips.
Lo Jik turned his attention to the beasts and worked his jaw.
'Nothing.'
No matter how he tried, he could not view any phenomenon of luck on the two desolate beasts!
Slightly tired after coughing out hair balls, the pair of kittens slept and cuddled against each other. It was like they were devoid of any luck.
A flash of inspiration suddenly brightened in Lo Jik's mind as he commanded his clones.
The two kittens were incredibly docile for desolate beasts. They also did not bother with anything when sleeping.
Under Lo Jik's control, the clones separated the two kittens.
Mortal killer move—Luck Inspection!
Lo Jik used the killer move again before gasping in surprise.
He noticed a wave of pure-white luck surrounding the black kitten. It gave off an extremely pleasant feeling. This pillar of luck started small but its height kept climbing under his gaze. No, more than that, the black kitten seemed to generate this wave of luck endlessly.
*Rumble*
To everyone's surprise, the stomachs of both the desolate beasts grumbled with hunger.
How could desolate beasts that did not eat anything for weeks suddenly starve?
It was evident to Lo Jik that this happened because they were separated.
He glanced at the white kitten before breaking out in a cold sweat.
Unlike the pillar of luck with an extremely pure and pleasant feeling, the white kitten desolate beast was entirely consumed in a pitch-black pillar of sinister luck. It was as if Lo Jik was watching the source of all misfortunes!
'Could it be…'
Lo Jik commanded the clones to bring the kitten desolate beasts together as he observed them both at once.
As they neared, the two pillars of luck seemed to be attracted to one another. The top of the luck pillars no longer pierced the clouds and expanded endlessly. Instead, they connected with each other. So, the black kitten's pure luck and white kitten's apparent bad luck pillars fused at the top and formed an arch.
Once they were together, their stomachs stopped rumbling. The breathing of both the desolate kittens eased and they quickly cuddled with each other.
Lo Jik realized at once.
'They consume luck. To be exact, the black kitten desolate beast's food is extremely sinister bad luck and the white kitten desolate beast's food is extremely pure good luck.'
That is why they did not go hungry and kept licking each other. It was how they survived.
'And what about these pearls?'
Lo Jik observed the so-called hair balls. There were six black and white pearls with fur-like texture on their surface.
It was obvious that these were luck path gu materials. However, Lo Jik had no idea about their purpose. The white hair ball coughed by the black kitten desolate beast radiated good luck. And the black hair ball coughed by the white kitten desolate beast radiated bad luck.
'Should I put them in Treasure Yellow Heaven?' Lo Jik mused. He could put up a pair and sell these in exchange for information. But the chance of anyone offering any valuable information about luck path is close to none—
'There is one individual who might be attracted by this material. I kept a close eye on it. Every new material attracts that heavenly spirit. And if this isn't a new material, that individual has the highest chance of identifying luck path materials.'
'Let's try it.'
Lo Jik placed a pair of black and white luck path pearls in Treasure Yellow Heaven as a bright pillar of treasure light covered them instantly. He examined the pillar of light and realized that its value was only slightly below the usual rank 6 immortal material present in adequate portions. Just these two pearls reached the level of a fist-sized False Moon Silver.
"This Faceless Transformation Immortal again." A divine sense nearby noticed the new materials and shot Lo Jik's divine sense a dirty gaze. To most gu immortals, the Faceless Transformation Immortal persona was just some lucky punk who chanced upon a great treasure trove. After all, he did not present materials consistently and appeared with different desolate beasts with no relation to each other.
"What are these two pearls?" A divine sense approached Lo Jik as he answered with a haughty smile.
"You cannot even recognize this material? Get lost! I can't discuss prices with someone who doesn't even understand how valuable these are!"
The other party snorted in return but did not leave. The pillar of light surrounding the two pearls was not eye-catching at all but gu immortals were a curious breed. Many wanted to record this 'new' material just for the sake of it.
'They might not be around. I'll leave a will and busy myself with other things.'
Lo Jik left Treasure Yellow Heaven and closed his eyes, pondering a few other things. He was already working to create accommodations for Diamond Bear in his human path blessed land. With enough time, his blessed land will produce enough diamond soil to be used elsewhere while the excess could be sold in the market. That wasn't all. Lo Jik had several inheritances detailing a great many records on the way of immortal cultivation, including bestiaries and various tips and tricks to raise desolate beasts, plants, and other materials.
Although a rare breed of desolate beast, there was a record about nurturing Diamond Bears in Nine-Headed Schemer's true inheritance. The knowledge was slightly dated but still extremely useful as Lo Jik learned about the benefits of diamond soil and how to raise more diamond bears. That, alongside a formation, would let Lo Jik multiply the number of diamond bears. Of course, the effects would be even more shocking if he could deduce an immortal formation utilizing one earth path immortal gu worm.
On the other hand, his first blessed land was a haven for strength path. Although he had to buy food for the bandit monkey groups, they settled extremely well in the first blessed land, occupying the eastern regions. Lo Jik also created several earthen stools and platforms for the monkey groups to engage in arm-wrestling competitions. However, he didn't proceed to interfere heavily right away. Before dealing with the monkey groups, Lo Jik wanted to create an environment for the lone peach wolf and reverse shark.
'I can achieve most of these tasks right after returning to Immemorial Desolate Grotto-Heaven. However, trying to make such a jump through the sect's public blessed land is too dangerous.'
Lo Jik did not know how much the sect had invested in the public blessed land's defense and what kind of formations lied dormant. Using the space path formation to slip to his grotto-heaven was no different from kowtowing and begging Fairy Yi or anyone else to beat his face into a blood pulp.
'But… I shouldn't postpone this any longer—'
Lo Jik glimpsed and reverted his attention to Treasure Yellow Heaven.
"Oh? Who are you?" Lo Jik demanded coldly as he communicated with an agitated divine sense. "Do you think I'm a fool? How can you know about these precious materials? Go away, go away! I won't sell these beauties to ignorant morons."
"Your mother is the ignorant one!" The other party hissed and instantly flaunted. "How could I not know about the disaster pearls? Quick, tell me, where did you find these pearls? Are there more? Did you find Disaster Kittens? Only when both the male and female Disaster Kittens are together do they create this rare luck path material! Tell me, do you have their corpses?"
Lo Jik noted down the information and smile secretly.
'So, he is Old Man Lang Ya…' Lo Jik's gaze gleamed coldly while he spoke in a tone of flattery.
"Ah, my mistake, sir. I couldn't see Mt. Tai. I never knew you were so knowledgeable. Please, forgive this junior's mistake."
Old Man Lang Ya laughed as his mood improved greatly.
"All is forgiven, friend. Now tell me about these disaster pearls."
Lo Jik sighed deeply and shook his head.
"I did find a somewhat unrecognizable pair of corpses around these disaster pearls. I couldn't stomach the thought of those corpses belonging to Disaster Kittens *Sigh*."
"Really? Sell me those corpses!" Old Man Lang Ya spoke excitedly.
"Absolutely not!" Lo Jik refuted flatly. "If senior knows about Disaster Kittens, then you know about what they represent. I would also like to research on them and learn more about… that…"
Old Man Lang Ya fell silent before snorting.
"What can you research on those corpses? Let me tell you something important, that path… most of the luck path resources are only useful if they are alive. There is some leeway for mortal materials, but you can forget about researching dead immortal materials."
Lo Jik blinked. As he deduced, Old Man Lang Ya did know a few things about luck path. Even Lo Jik knew what Old Man Lang Ya was talking about but he persisted with a fascinated tone.
"Now I'm even more curious about them, senior. Please, I cannot disrespect a learned person such as yourself and make a fool out of myself by continuously rejecting you. I wish to keep the corpses, senior."
Old Man Lang Ya instead pressured Lo Jik more as his tone grew firmer in response.
"Fine! You want to hear the truth, Old Man Lang Ya?" Lo Jik smiled coldly. "The more you force me, the more I want to learn about these corpses! Haha! Do you think I'm stupid? You say the corpse are useless but why do you desire them so much? It's obvious they have a great value!"
Old Man Lang Ya was stunned before his anger and frustration vanished. He laughed loudly and answered candidly.
"That's because I want to feed the corpses to a one of my hibernating gu worm. What else? Hahaha!"
"Hmph! I don't trust you!" Lo Jik instantly cut the transmission and left Treasure Yellow Heaven. He even took away the disaster pearls, leaving Old Man Lang Ya frozen in shock.
"That idiot!" Old Man Lang Ya instantly raged a moment later as other divine senses unaware of the conversation dispersed in disappointment.
'Disaster Kittens, huh.' Lo Jik observed the pair. The white one was male and the black one was female. 'So, Old Man Lang Ya wants their corpses. The only reason he would ignore rare luck path materials is that he might already possess them in his storage.'
Lo Jik gleaned some information before licking his dry lips.
'Not yet. I can't scheme against this entity unless I'm fully prepared. Theft path methods might not be the best… my best bet is none other than dream path.'
After all, he was a dream path great grandmaster!
He was the number one gu immortal in terms of dream path in the current era… well, he will be one with some practice and experience.
'We will be leaving in a week. Black Moon is getting impatient.'
Lo Jik took out a gu worm with a complex expression. It was rank 5 gu worm resembling a green orb of light.
Rank 5 Life Rotation Gu.
It was originally a part of Rank 5 Life-Death Rotation Gu—a rare rule path gu worm that could revive and kill any rank 5 gu master.
Several scenes of intense battle and a sense of hopelessness flashed in his mind and heart.
He let it all out with a short exhale before activating the gu worm and targeting a small fragment of a certain someone.
Jade-green light filled Lo Jik's cultivation chamber as an intense radiance took shape of a feminine body. Lo Jik couldn't help but furrow as his soul stirred slightly. It felt like something was pulled out from it.
A soul fragment hidden in the depths of his soul flew out and merged with the jade green light.
*Whoosh*
The light dispersed as a fair figure suddenly fell to her knees.
Lo Jik moved at once, holding a pink-haired woman in his arms. The embrace stirred the woman. She appeared familiar yet unfamiliar. Due to body refinement gu worms, she was once devilishly charming and bewitching to most gu masters. Her scent drove a great many men crazy with desire, and the promises in her whispers led even more to their ruin as she played with fire against Lo Jik's sound caution and ended up getting burned in process. She played with the wrong man and ended up becoming his plaything instead.
Hu Mei Er.
Her eyes fluttered open as her green irides glistened with emotion. Her eyesight was blurred but she remembered this embrace all too well. Her weak body cozied up in his arms and her head raised ever so slightly.
"Honey…" she whispered sweetly, her voice choked with emotions as her eyesight turned clear only to turn hazy with tears. "I'm back…" she sniffed and sobbed in his arms as Lo Jik's embrace tightened slightly in an attempt to comfort her.
"Kept me waiting, eh?" Lo Jik smiled softly as if he wasn't weighing pros and cons of awakening this crazy nut until the pros greatly surpassed the minor disadvantages. His deep voice and loving tone instantly made Hu Mei Er cry in happiness.
