Then she broke down.
A sob tore from her throat, and she launched herself into his arms as much as her weakened state allowed, clinging to him with desperate strength.
"I love you..." The words came out barely above a whisper, raw and vulnerable, before her body went limp against him.
She'd fallen unconscious again, the emotional toll too much for her weakened state. But even in unconsciousness, her fingers remained tangled in his shirt, holding on.
Yunchen held her trembling form, his own breath shaky as he processed those three words. His chest ached, not from pain, but from something far more overwhelming.
He pressed a lingering kiss to her forehead, his lips trembling against her skin.
"I love you too," he whispered to her unhearing ears, his voice thick with emotion. "More than you'll ever know."
