The older nurse efficiently changed out the IV bag, her movements practiced and sure. She glanced at Zhou Yuxi, taking in the blood-stained hospital gown, the exhausted, desperate expression, the way she clutched Mu Yunchen's hand like a lifeline.
"You should rest too, dear," the nurse said, her tone gentle but firm. "I've been doing this for thirty years, and I can tell you that patients do better when their loved ones are healthy and strong. He's going to need you when he wakes up. Can't do him much good if you collapse from exhaustion."
"I'm not leaving him," Zhou Yuxi said, her voice brooking no argument.
The nurse didn't push, just nodded as if she'd expected that answer. "Then at least try to sleep in that chair. We'll wake you if anything changes. I promise."
Dr. Mitchell checked his watch. "I need to get back to the surgical floor, but I'll be checking in regularly. Dr. Chen will be his primary physician for the neurological recovery. You're in good hands."
