Within moments, the room emptied, leaving only Zhou Yuxi and Mu Yunchen standing face to face in heavy silence.
"I know I should have listened to you," Mu Yunchen said finally, his voice low and measured as he took a step toward her. "But you need to be careful about what you say. About what people might...."
Zhou Yuxi took a deliberate step backward, maintaining the distance between them.
Her eyes were cold, shuttered.
"Unless you speak up, no one would know anything," she said, her voice venomous, and cutting. "So don't lecture me about being careful when you're the only variable that could expose what happened."
Mu Yunchen felt that like a physical blow. She didn't trust him. Or worse, she didn't care if he knew, because she'd already calculated that he'd protect her regardless.
